Angry Heater Clip

I posted a few days ago about excess heat in my driver and passenger foot wells on my 83 and I was told it was the heater clip gone bad. Can Some one take a picture or give a detailed explanation of where it is because I can not find it anywhere,I would really appreciate it.

it's under the steering wheel next to where the center console meets the dash.

The infamous heater clip applies to 85.5+ cars only. The most likely cause of similar heat problems in the early cars is the mechanically actuated heater valve (engine bay).

Can't fix it - just replace it... but, that's what you meant, huh

Aside from getting to it to remove it (between engine and firewall, above bell housing), it requires you drain the coolant (lower radiator hose), then pull the cable from it, then pull the hoses from it, then replace it, then refill the engine coolant, then bleed coolant system (much harder than it looks - sometimes requires milking the hose - your air relief is in the top engine hose, front center)

Good Luck!

I have seen early cars with the heater lever broken where it attaches from the lever to the cable at the center console. Can you turn the heat off at all? You may want to use a flashlight looking at the heater valve while turning on the heater to see if the arm moves. Good luck.

well, I didn't pay much attention to the MY... but now you know where it's located on late model cars!
