Just out of curiosity, i was told that owners of later 944's cannot go with monstrous sway bars like the 968 M030 30mm sway bar. So then what are our options if our aluminum A-arms are too weak for sway's that big?

I'm running the heck out of my Weltmister Swaybars... Bigger than M030, and no problems yet!

Anyone else heard that we shouldn't do this?

There are plenty of people running the m030 bars on late cars with no problems. I think the main problem is with cars that are substantially lowered in the front and then using giant sway bars. I've got them on my S2 and I definately put them to use both on track and off track, no issues...

You were told wrong. The M030's are fine on any 944. The 968 they were designed for has the same aluminum A-arms.

968 MO30s on an 89 951 here, no problems! Why would a late 944 be unable to use stock 968 parts, essentially the same suspension?

I'll check my car when (if ever...) I get it back. It's been lowered somewhat aggressively, has 968 M030 sways installed and I know the PO drove it hard for four years. Really heavy wheels too...

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Go for it, and check the a-arms for visible damage every now and then if it helps to ease your mind

I am running the "Upgraded" stock sway bars.... They are 28mm instead of 25 i believe, and they are plenty stiff... I am sure that with some springs and struts they will be plenty stiff... Just get poly bushings for them,.... When i redid the bushings you could tell.... Only problem is I forget where i got the bushings......

I agree with Jonas: 28mm up front is plenty stiff. Heck, my stock 27mm front sways are plenty stiff in my 944S2.

However, you CAN upgrade to the 30mm fronts, but I think what benefits you gain in stiffening up the front, you loose in creating a car that understeers more.

For less $$, and a better end result, you can upgrade the rear sway to the 968 19mm M030 3-way adjustable sway bar.

Somebody gave you the information backwards. It is the older 944s with the steel arms that may have problems with larger sway bars. Apparently, the bigger bars put too much stress on the old-style mounting points. For track use, the arms can be reinforced or the mounting points can be upgraded.

What size are the mo30 sway bars? My 88 S has like 28mm front and 17mm in the rear and mine seems to have a real good balance, although it does lean more than I expected, it seem to have the right balance.

bader$, 968 m030 bars are 30mm hollow front, 19mm 3-way adjustable rear.

Well a buddy of mine has an 84' 44 and is running 968 M030 sways up front with a welt meister 22mm adjustable rear. It's lowered a 1/4inch like my 88', but with just those sway bars the car flys around corners at some insane speed without showing signs of breaking. Then i was informed that the steel arms used on those cars combined with the shorter length make them extremely strong. Anyhow, has anyone seen or tried those a-arms that are the long aluminum arms for our late model cars but are steel sleeved? There supposed to be hella strong and not be affected as much by aggressive lowering. If my memory serves, i believe tweeks had them in there newer catalog.

I have the M030 bars with Charley Arms on my 1988 944. Someone asked for options - this one would allow you to add the big bars and safely lower the car. But - it is an expensive solution.
