Technically speaking it's a larger motor due to the bore spacing.

Traditionally, "big block" engines were defined by the bore space and the 928 / 944 engine has almost the same bore centers as a 502 Chevy BB.

So if there is such a thing as a 4-cylinder big block, the 944 engine would qualify.

Don't confuse this with displacement.

bore spacing on a 944 is identical to the 944S - identical blocks...unless you refer to the 1989 motors.

doug, go halvsies?

"hit a curb and broke the tie rod control arm and bent the steering rod parts are around 250 "

He must have price quoted early 944 parts....that control arm alone could double that part estimate. Nothing like buying a sportscar from a guy who hasnt a clue about it.

The 86 down in lake elsinore sounds better....even without the S

These are even better deals than mine was. Still at double the estimate to fix, it would still be worth it. A S for $1500? Yes Please!

A '86 S?
I thought the "S" models were only '87-'88?

Ultra rare model or another example of the seller doesn't know what he has?

I'd want to see the title & VIN plate before going very far...they may not match. (86 title, '87 car?)

in 1990 i got my '87 944 S with 17,600 miles, passenger side door, hood and passenger side quarter, keyed, passenger side door handle broken, interior door cloth slashed on passenger side. seats slashed. theft recovery, $5,260 at auction. (it did have a salvage title but the car was back up after a few weeks in the shop).

i had all issues resolved including paint for $2,300 minus the slashed seats, which i covered with those old nylon, water-sports seat covers. i soooooo much miss it.

this reminds me of that "deal." cars from the south, california, etc, are under-rated
