Default First track day with my 944S... At Mosport!(Video and pics)

I bought this car July 4th, drove it for 10 days, then found out it needed cams, tensioner, chain etc. I replaced everything and then it sat for 3 months. Got it safetied last week and this week took it to mosport for its first driving event.

This isnt my first track day at Mosport. My work puts on a customer appreciation day every year. The car is bone stock minus 245/45R16 BFG R1's all the way around. (I know i need 225's up front, but these were free)

For some reason it was horribly slow up the back straight, i was barely pulling past 160km/h (needs a tune-up and possibly a cat), but all in all it was an awesome day with no problems!!

He's an in car vid, sorry it's taken with a blackberry, and for some reason its very quiet:

Jeff, 245s are fine on the front, provided they're on 8" wheels, not 7's.

Also, if your speedo is accurate, 160 km/h is about right for an S going into 8. That hill is steep, and the S isn't a torque monster.

Thanks for the video!

ya... the 245's were on 7"s... like i said, cant complain with free. They dont have much life left so im debating on buying another set of 8"s and running 245's all around or buying staggered tires. I did find it was a little tail happy mid corner, which... is still 100x better then my old golf (FWD understeer ftl) so im just thinking 225's will help make it more neutral.

Also i was finding all the 944's in our local regional races run 225/245 or 245/275 set-ups... must be a reason everyone runs staggard i figure.

I now run 225 front and 255 rear on my Turbo (which is pretty stiff) and it's beautifully balanced. I went from 245 to 255 on the rear because I wasn't used to the rear stepping out from my time in the S (which I still think I prefer as a track car).

225/245 has what I think is the best feel, over all.

just did some research, the only street tire in a 245/45R16 is a fuzion ZRI... that kinda sucks.

I definitely want 225/245 on the street though, right now my street tires are 215/60R15's... it feels like such crap on those balloon tires.

pics of my car with the wheel/tire set-up:

(I think it needs to be a tiny bit lower too... its handle awesome but leans like a bastard. Sway bars are the next investment i think, then springs/shocks/torsion bars)

Pic from today at the track...yes thats snow, haha.

I run 245's all around with my 951 - i love the throttle steering ability it gives you with that much more bite on the front.
BTW - what's the deal with all those cones on the right side of 2A?

The ZRI isn't a bad tire, according to everything I've heard. 16" tires are getting very scarce, though, and I ended up going to 17s last year.

Edit: I should say, "...according to some of what I've heard." There are certainly some naysayers, and I haven't tried them, myself. My last 16" tires were Bridgestone S-02s (225/245) and they were quite impressive.

with your car, you can use the throttle to help turn. The n/a, even with the 16V, doesnt really have enough ***** to help steer.

also, the cones are for the n00bs... its a customer appriciation day. 98% of them dont have any track experience let alone mosport turn 2 experience
