Angry Those goofball "Porsche" taillight center lense panels

Does anyone know if those illuminated "Porsche" lense panels that people stick between their taillights do anything permanent to the car? Holes drilled or wiring cut, etc?

I'd rather chew broken glass than spend one second in the same room as a blurry xerox of a faded picture of one of those lense panels.

Humbly,

Bryan

Yes, holes are drilled to mount it and holes drilled in bumper to mount license plate.I have one on my car (installed by PO)and they are extremely ugly.

I passed on buying an otherwise beautiful 944 just because it had one of these abominations stuck on the back. I saw a 944 the other day that had one installed but the red lens part had fallen off leaving just the white plastic bulb holder and 8 bare bulbs glaring at me. Awful!

i agree,

not to **** off any current owners of the "option", but it may be one of the single ugliest aftermarket accesories available for any of the porsche series. bone-chillingly ugly.

I agree, it is extremely ugly... Fortunately they are pretty rare in Europe.

I like the replacement that Shaun made though.. Looks very nice on his black car.

My car came with one of these. The way I fixed it was to remove the part and fill the holes with pop rivits that I painted red.

You mean this:

My car came with it, and originally, I wasn't too happy with it, but it has grown on me. I like the way it smoothes out the back end, although the lic. plate relocation isn't ideal.

To each his own. While I don't like shiny chrome wheels on some of our cars, obviously others do. There's no need to bash someone's customization just because it doesn't meet with your approval.

And another thing: our cars have very little lighting in the back, making them hard to see at night. With the center light up panel, it is easier to see the car.

And exc911ence: if you passed up buying a 944 only because of the panel, then that wasn't too smart: it's very easy to remove them, and to plug up the holes left.

I guess the only people that have to worry about seeing my rear (car's rear, that is! ) are the ones I pass! hehe...

Okay, my car (picked it up 2 days ago!!!) has the fugly option. I love it and loathe it at the same time. Here's a pick of me car:

(It's the Red one!)

Here's what a PROPER 951 rear end should look like:

Turbo Valence, Euro Rear Bumper, and a EURO PLATE.

Proper!

I'm going to convert my 951 to look like that!

I don't like the euro bumper on the rear of the 951. I do like the license plate mounted lower when you go to the light package, but I don't like the package itself. I think it might look better without the lettering. Just my $0.02.

I have one on my Turbo. They are OK. I would not spend money on one, but I will not remove since I then need to cover the holes.

I guess it really does not bother me either way.

Here is picture of 3 different styles.

Oh, the guy in front is not me, but fellow 944 guy from a few years back...Miles you out there??

I had one on my 924--factory option. I liked it because it was the only thing on the car that said "Porsche"(except the crest). Not a big fan of the newer "segmented" types, but they don't look too bad.

I suppose that everyone is entitled to their own personal taste, regardless of how bad it might be. Sure I passed up a good 944 because of the hideous POS between the tailights, but with so many decent ones out there, why settle for less? Besides, the 924S that I eventually bought, was nicer still than that 944 and had a sweeter looking rear to boot!

Alright already: WE ALL KNOW your opinion on the rear lens. Now: please stop bashing it!
Chill out.
