Default Pulling engine: how to disconnect steering?

I'm pulling the motor and following the instructions on clarks-garage & the lists posted here. It calls for disconnecting the steering shaft. Where is the steering shaft disconnected and how is it done?

TIA

You loosen and remove the 13mm nut at the u-joint that is attached to the end of the shaft. It connects to the power steering rack.

You will usually have to pry it off, too. Be careful as there is a plastic cap at the top of the rack where it connects to the shaft.

Mark the alignment by scribing or paint so it goes back on the splines the same position... the retaining bolt wont go back in otherwise (the shaft is notched to receive the bolt).

13mm nut and bolt combo, needs to be removed entirely. as said, pry a little to get the shaft off. also if you need to remove the shaft entirely the other end is under the brake booster, same deal, 13mm bolt/nut

Prying did not quite do it for me. I needed to search for the right angle and pop with a hammer and chisel.

I had to carefully position a dowel on the top of it and wack it a few times to get it off.

Also try inserting a screwdriver into the slot of the coupling. The coupling is split, and the bolt clamps it down tight. With the bolt loosened, use a screw driver to spread the gap/slot, and you should be able to get it sliding off the steering rack shaft.

First you get a rather large can of gas... pour it over the entire engine bay. Then proceed to light a match, drop it into the bay and run... make sure to cover your eyebrows.

This is good advice or you will spend a couple of hours later.

+1, have seen others that just slide right off, but the one on my car does not.
