Default re-tensioning belt - use "old" or "new" ?

got the cam tower back on with new gasket, trying to set the belt tension at the moment

now I'm wondering if I have to set the cam gear 1 tooth before the mark again - and if I use "old" or "new" graphs with the Arnworx instructions?

Is it an old or new belt?

why would you ever set it one tooth before the mark?

because thats how Clark's describes belt tension?

its a new belt - driven for about 1000 miles - now I blew my cam tower gasket - just replaced it - so I'm wondering which procedure I follow to tension the belt

I wouldn’t call it old unless it had been in use for close to ten thousand miles.
You’re at the first re-tension interval.

xsboost, you set the gear back one tooth because when you tension the belt, it will advance the car gear by one tooth. Set it back one, and you are spot on.

Roman, set it like new, then recheck tension at about 1000 miles

well I wasn't sure, I followed Arnworx instructions to the T again - and I got it perfect again

after we set it the first time - turned the engine by hand - and found it skipping teeth, so we stopped, re-set everything back to TDC and tried again - this time we forgot to put the flywheel lock back on

3rd time's a charm - and I got it perfect the 3rd time - didn't need to set it 1 tooth before TDC - but I got it within 1/4 tooth marks of each other

also found another leaky hose - between intake manifold and firewall - its like 3" long with a 90* bend to it - had like 1/8" gash in it - must have been the source of antifreeze smell and why I had to top my car off almost every day - should be MUCH better now

right now all the oil and stuff is burning off the exhaust, but as far as we can tell - no leaks - we used blue silicone "make your own gasket" stuff - it's high temp - between cylinder head -> gasket -> cam housing

going to drive the car to work tomorrow and see how it handles a 20 mile round trip

also, I went with "used belt" - I probably didn't have to - especially since I have the Kevlar Gates timing belt - so my timing might be just a hair off this time - but car runs good, no "new" weird noises, idles even better now that I plugged the hole on the air box

thanks guys!
