Stubburn oil filter
I have a problem, I went to change my oil yesterday. When I went to take off the oil filter it wont budge at all. I have tried everything. I have the 944 filter wrench, and all it does is skip aroudn the filter. The filter was put on by porsche dealership and its too damn tight. I need some advice on how to get it off. The ridges around the filter are stripped. Right now this is my daily so I've had to bum rides to and from work. I feel like an idiot. Thanks in advance

If all else fails, take a pointy screwdriver and hammer it into the filter. I'm not kidding. It worked on my golf and my brothers passat. I don't recall the location of the 944 filter, but maybe you can get to it.

i used a screwdriver and hammer.
just put the screwdriver against the bottom edge of the filter(right where it screws on,there is a folded edge),at an angle and hit it repeatedly with a hammer.
i didn't really want to punch a hole in it,and this worked great for me.

I once had a friend who tried to remove the filter by punching the can with a screwdriver. All he succeeded in doing was destroying the outer part of the filter. Had to have the car towed to get the remains removed. You were lucky.

That is weird. Once you puncture the side of the filter and turn it with the screwdriver in for leverage, it should come off pretty easily. Typically, an oil filter shouldn't be on that tight.

Glad you got it. On my 88 N/A I replaced the filter, had to use a screwdriver. When I put it back on I tightened it by hand, not too tight. I have that engine out of the car. Tried to pull the filter, wouldn't budge, tried filter cup, filter pliers, channel locks, screw driver, NOTHING WORKED. And this is sitting on the garage floor with plenty of room to work. Obviously the filter housing is sitting in the corner with everythnig ripped off except the mounting plate. I even tried using a spanner wrecnch on the holes in the mounting plate after the rest of the filter was ripped off. I tightened it by hand, the car has been started about 10 times since the oil change, and driven none. Yes, I did put oil on the O-ring too.
