What is the best gear lube to run in a tranny with LSD?

TIA!

Perry I use redline shockproof gear oil with LSD. It is by far the best stuff for track type use. If it is also a road car .. u might want to use the light weight shockproof gear oil. I swear by the stuff.

I picked up Redline to run with mine from Paragon. I have used Redline fluid in most of the cars I've owned for the tranny and rear end and I've always noticed an improvement when putting that in.

Cheers!

I was told by Redline to run MTL I believe...either that or MT-90...and then to add a little bit of the LSD additive if the LSD chatters. You can call their tech support number and find out for sure.

My mechanic put 85-90 shell dino oil in my car and it seems to work just as good as the redline synthetic....even when cold.

I was running Valvoline Synthetic and it worked well. I had some noise, so I was thinking of changing. I'll do up the Redline MTL.

Thanks all!

Any issues when changing from 90 weight to synthetic? I really want to change mine ASAP!

Perry, make that MT-90 (or, 75W90 - is GL-5... from back in the archives we discussed this ad nauseum. final outcome: gl-4 is recommended, so Redline plays CYA by recommending MT-90 vice 75w90. Sales experience and customer feedback tell us 75W90 is also the shiznit)

Michelle, 90 is the weight, not the type - can be organic or synthetic. All Redline products are synthetic. Swepco is not, but uses a proprietary synthetic additive (lubium).

Brian:

Redline 75W-90 is formulated for use in transaxles with LSD. It is rated GL-5, which is the factory spec. This is what I use.

The 75W-90NS does not have the friction modifier added at the factory, but you can add it if you want. For racing, you would want to use the
75W-90NS and add modifier a little at a time until the "grabbiness" just goes away. I do not want to fool with this, so call me lazy.

The MTL is for Hondas and other transmissions that specify engine oil as a lube.

I have used the Mobil 1 and 75W-90NS, but they both chattered on sharp turns.

I have wanted to try the Shock Proof oil and am glad someone else volunteered to be the guinea pig. May try that on the next change.

Ken Farler used 75w-90 Mobile-1 synth in my LSD tranny so if he uses it. The stuff has to be some really good crap! I ordered redline oil but it never came (then again I was never charged so I dunno)
