Post Cruise control, thought it was broken--nope

I thought it was broken...but I tried it again tonight.

If I'm on the gas and engage the cruise control, it just accelerates.

If I take my foot off the gas and engage it, it works perfectly.

I take it this is normal behavior and it was my brain that wasn't working?

Maybe this'll fix someone elses cruise control "problems" hehe...

same problem here. I set the cruise and the car just floors it. Why it does that is beyond me, however sometimes it works great.

Cool

I first tried cleaning the contacts that are in the mechanical actuator under the hood but is didn't do anything. The fix is to pull the electronic 'brain' module that is near the hood release lever. Take it apart and, being very careful, re-solder all of the tiny connections by using a small tip iron and breifly touching every connection. No new solder needs to be used for this process. This procedure does work; I have done it to two boxes so far this year.

All of you, and many other 944 owners, are suffering a cold solder problem. The cruise brain solder joints start to fail with age. I've yet to see a 944 that didn't have the problem to some degree.

The fix isn't a big deal but it's labor intensive. Resolder the board... If you know your electronics well, you can spot a cold solder easily, I guess. I don't so I sent my brain out to someone to have him take care of the problems. I'll send him an e-mail and see if he'd be interested in fixing a few more. It was very affordable.

BTW, DON'T engage the cruise control and then put it in neutral if you drive a stick. The cruise lets off when the clutch is depressed, but try's to get to speed in whatever gear you are in when the clutch is released. Just guess what it does in neutral. Remember to turn off the cruise controll if you ever decide to neutral coast.

G96... Just wait!

Not to be mean or anything but I've seen more than a few cars where the cruise was fine at first. Inevitably, the brain starts to go bad with use. This is sort of like the blow off valve on the turbos. You have the original blow off valve and it's not bad? Just wait...

EuroSpec: If it completely doesn't work, it is probably still the cruise brain but of course, other factors could be affecting it like a non working cruise servo.

Whhoaa....
Are you guys trying to tell me that my cruise is busted? That if I'm on the gas and engage it, it should hold my speed? If I engage it with my foot off the gas it holds speed perfectly, but if I engage it with my foot on the gas it accelerates (not that hard or anything).

So is mine busted or is that normal?

thanks,
Adrial

Busted is such a harsh word...

But yeah, it's got issues. Definitely sounds like the solder connections.
