OMG IS THAT A FIAT!?
It's been about as reliable as a Fiat this last season.
Winter projects lie in our future
::

I once had a guy ask me if my 944 was "One a dem Carrara's"
Once I explained to him what a 944 was, he followed his previous question up with, "Dat thang gotta V8?!"
I was dumbfounded. I replied with a sullen, "No" and went on my way.

Mine caught on fire. I feel your pain. Although it technically was due to a ground I missed. I should have seen it but did not, the points grounded out, used the dizzy as ground, and from there the harness went up. I ended up making a new harness from scratch. Sure did learn a lot about how it's wired though, so I look on the bright side, I've become a lot more close to that car. <3 my 914.

I'm considering these "custom" plates right now:

9 FO FO

ROT 944
944 RED (because RED 944 is taken!)

PORRARI

or FERRSCHE

haha...i honestly think that the red cars are the ones that get the ferrari comment the most. I haven't gotten it since i painted my car black. Speaking of custom tags, just got my new tags in!

True Story -
One of my fellow 944 enthusiasts and I went on a Sat. drive in our cars. His is a concours level '84 na, and mine an '89 S2, both guards red (the excuse, as if one was needed, was that I was breaking in brand new Dunlop Z1's for a track day). We drove to a locally well known stretch of lightly traveled, twisty mountain road. Known because the two directions are split to different paths, and you can drive without fear of a car coming the other way at you around a curve.

Just as we started up from the bottom we were both stopped and pulled over by a cop watching radar(going 55 in a straight, what now seems to be a 45 speed trap - sheesh!! But of course, two red sports cars - no surprise). But my friend probably overheard the real reason. The cop said on his radio "I've stopped a couple of red ferraris here" Instantly two other cops show up (to see the squadron of supposed ferraris - you think?). Imagine their disappointment.

and, Oh - we were released with a warning. LOL

yesterday took mine on it's maiden voyage to work and on the way home stopped at the local liquor store for a 12 pack.
the kid at the counter asked if that was my little toy out in the parking lot.
I said yes and he replied, is it a 944S?....no it's a base.
well I guess people know Ferries don't come in black, only red.

Thought you guys would appreciate this story - even though it's about the OTHER front engine transaxle Porsche...

A few years ago I was outside, washing my 928. A young boy skated-by, and said something like: "That's a pretty old fashioned car you have there...". I told him that it's an old car and that I love it just the way it is.

A few days later, my garage door was open and the 928 inside. The boy skates along and stops. All of a sudden he screams something like "Woah - you've got a Porschhh - you must be rich!" I explained that you don't have to be rich to own an old Porsche, but that you have to take good care of it,...

A few days later, my front door was open, and he peeks inside as he is skating-by. Again, he stops and looks. He sees a pretty modern decor with a blue couch etc. He asks, if he could come inside and take a look. I show him the house, and he totally loves it.

Another few days later, his aunt, who he was staying with, comes to my door. She asks, if she can see my place, because he's been talking about it (and the car) for the last few days, and now wants to come live with me...

I had a second gen (1986) RX-7 back in Germany, and loved it! It blended 944 and some 928 styling cues, and while it was not as perfect looking as either, it was a darn nice and fun car. With exception of the rust protection, it was pretty well made also!

I drove it for two years, before I sold it back to the dealer (I moved to the US and couldn't take it with me). The rear tires were blank on the outer areas of the tread; that's how much fun I had. This car handled like a go-kart! No wonder, it had a rear axle with similar passive steering as the 928s Weissach axle, speed sensitive steering, and the tiny engine was mounted low and far back.

Downsides were the lack or an AC (it was a sauna in the summer), and fuel consumption - it took significantly more fuel than my 928, at half the power. Not good, considering the gas prices in Europe...

Still, if I could ever drive one of my previous cars again, it would be that one!

I cruise around with a buddy that owns a 1988 Ferrari Testarossa, when I had the red 951 people would always assume they were both Ferrari's. I love the fact that most car enthusiests know exactly what a 951 is and respect the raw power they can have with bolt on's. Shoot I was fooling around with a early 90's Dodge Viper and the guy shouted out the window before parting "Fast 944, stock?".

respect

Nicole - that's a funny story about the kid

here, the same UPS guy has been bring us boxes and boxes of big and small stuff for my 944, usually we didn't see him - and the 944 was always on the blocks - so while we were waiting for low-temp stuff to come in - I finally saw the dude that was delivering all these goodies to us

and he asks, so is that Porsche EVER going to run?

I told him that its on the road already, but I haven't seen him again yet
