'92 968 Vs. '00 Integra Type R
Autocross in SoCal at the end of April...stock vs. stock who should pull off better times? All I know is he's got a 700 lb advantage, which seems hardly fair, and I think he's running street tires.

Well I would say its all up to the driver......
I have a 89 944S2 and also we have a test car at work which is a 00' interga-R. Both auto-x well
but the acuras shorter wheel base may make it a better x-ser. First off its shocks in stock form are
FAR better than any stock 944/951/968 shock even the m030 units. The 968 has a bit more power but a bunch more weight, but vtech can be a disadvantage
because you need to keep the r's over 6K which can be hard when shifin gears.......
regards

Both cars are pretty decent autocrossers. It will ultimately come down to one major component. Who is a better driver and knows their car better.
Driver skill has more impact than anything else.

Umm...ok. We're not street racing here, smarts. It's competition for points.
Larry and turbo, thanks for your opinions. The kid's got a chip on his shoulder and I was curious if there's any way to brush it off.

I like both cars a whole lot, but I would say with even drivers teh type R is going to have a slight advantage. They are so nible and tossable that they work very well in auto-x. The motor does not have a lot of torque, but it has a huge RMP range and a good close ratio box. The 700 lbs difference is really going to matter it makes everything that car has work so much better.
The cars are not too far apart that you can't out dirve him, get a couple of good runs in and you'll be able to take him, good luck.

It also depends on the course. A couple of months ago at the Streets of Willow Springs course, a stripped out ITR kicked everyone's as* pretty soundly. I was about 4 seconds/lap slower than some super-modified RX-7 TwinTurbo that was spitting out 6-foot flames. About the same gap behind a Viper that was also spitting out flames. The yellow ITR whooped all of us about 4-seconds faster than the RX7 & Viper and 8 seconds faster than me. I've got 290rwhp 951 too...

Hey Danno, do you know that guy who writes all the stories on nsxfiles.com? He's got the NSX Flamemobile, F-355 Ferrari, and S2000...that guy is a riot! It'd be sweet to meet him in person.

The tires are REALLY important. A stock 1991 951 with chip and some small engine work (300 flywheel horsepower) with Yokohama A032R beat the stock 996 GT3 (with street tires) around "BILSPORT SUPERSTAGE". This is a test performed by Sweden's "BILSPORT MAGAZINE" where they test on the same track with the same driver (professional). It was real close, but a GT3 is suposed to be MUCH faster. It was all because of the wide racing tires. 17" 235&275 A032R.

First, let me say I like both cars.
Second, the ITR does not have nearly the low end that the 968 does.
Third, the ITR is lighter.
Forth, the ITR handles and brakes better than my stock 944, I don't know about your 968.

Yeah, I know Doug Hayashi. Just saw him last weekend at the Streets of Willow course. He came out there right after having had major orthoscopic surgery on his knee. Still posted FTD until the last 1/2 hour of the day in his S2000. THen another S2000 beat him by a couple hundredth of a second! He got me about about 6-7 seconds and beat a 966TT by about 3 seconds.
We're going up to Sear Point at the end of the month. Wurth Motorsports will be one of the first groups to get to run on the new course. Sign up here:

LOL, I read all about Streets of Willow on his site and how he loved beating all you guys with the injured knee. His wife is hilarious, still made him take out the trash and get the mail. Hahah, Doug's an inspiration. I need to have race school experience or driver's ed. under my belt before doing track days, don't I? I've only been doing the autocross thing so far.

It's not how fast you, but how you go fast. There's always going to be somebody in a Civic with enough mods to dust you. Then, think of how much you're happier having your car in the garage at night.

Yes, I know. But he's stock. It's just some friendly competition, however, I'd sleep easier if I don't get leveled by a lil' Acura.
