Hey man I just signed up today for a membership, but I need my member number in order to login into this parts blow out website. How long does it take to get your membership #?

I joined this weekend....the blow-out gave me the excuse but I should have done it long ago...what this board provides..a comunity thru which we can exchange ideas, tips, good and bad experiences with our cars and occasionally the cars ( or their parts) themselves...is worth much more than $18!...just add up the money saved thru the use of ONE good tip on this board and you'll have more than paid for the membership fee!

Thanks John!

That said....when DO I get my membership info so I can look at the parts blowout?

Even if John does make a salary doing this, so what? Can anybody supply a reason why he shouldn't?

This is a well run site. He's got 2 tiers of servers running, at least, web frontends and a db or 2 behind, bet he has a firewall (if not, he'd better), he's got 2 business-grade uplinks (are those T1's? ($$$)), he's got web servers with generous storage space available for members. That's some serious ching. I know, I'm in the biz.

I have no patience for freeloaders, in this or any other arena. I paid my dues and I'll do it again. I support Rennlist for the same reason I support Public radio and TV. It's a subscription for information that has saved me money, and even when it doesn't it gives me a place to hatch ideas and dream about the car I could build. Eighteen bucks is nothing for the service I get. And if John cuts a deal with a supplier that gets people to help chip in, so much the better. That's good business and I have no beef with it. And if he makes a salary from doing it (and I believe him when he says he doesn't), that's fine too. What's wrong with getting paid for work?

I also note that John has enough integrity and self assurance to leave the critical postings up. Another reason to like him.

cheers

Thaddeus

I guess I should be like the silent majority that use the list and be anonymous. John should be commended for the great job he has done over the years. And yes Thad he's invested a lot of bling bling into the computer gizmos. In fact it's light years from where the Porschelist was.
If John took offence that I suggested he made money off the site, I can't help that. If he isn't then it's just simply a labour of love on his part.
For the technical wizards for Porsche cars, past, present and future, I commend you for sharing the technical know how for us non-techno geeks.
For the businesses that support Rennlist, I will continue to be your customers.
For the card carrying members, it seems like you have the equivalent of the Rennlist American Express card, membership truly has its priviliges.
And Thaddeus, for all your philisophical sayings on Rennlist, calling me a freeloader merely puts you on par with "Master Bates", whom kindly awarded be the biggest buttock award.
So strip me of my stars or bounce me off the list. I've seen far worse on Rennlist than expressing an opinion that hasn't caused this much of a kerfluffle.

OK, let's do a retrospective edit:

For the phrase, "I don't like freeloaders", substitute the phrase "I don't like people who accept benefits from the work of others without making any kind of return, and then are sore-headed about the free service or benefit they recieve."

That takes it out of the realm of name calling. Better?

By the way, M. Bates let you off lightly. The last time he passed on the crown, he didn't use nearly as tame a term as '***', but instead employed a CONSIDERABLY more vulgar colloquialism. But perhaps he can be persuaded to edit his post as well.

cheers

Almost better, but still an insinuation that I have never contributed to the betterment of somebody's knowledge or problem. (which I have on occasion)
On this occasion my impatience has cost me my 2 star rating me thinks!
And Master Bates can use whichever term he prefers, to express his opinion.
So maybe someone can deploy a little halon, the flames are getting a little higher!
...and thanks Thaddeus, your kind approach helps to soothe the sting of being crowned king buttock.

Wow! Its hard to beleive how one small sentence and a question can start so much conversation. Maybe it was the spark to light the fire.
Thanks John for your web site. It has helped me in many ways.
