Default Painting wheel center black, with polished lip

I was thinking about painting my silver wheels black with a polished (or silver painted) lip, to resemble the good ol' Fuchs or cookie cutters. I don't want to say what kind of wheel it is until I can show them off.

What I'm wondering is if this type of paint scheme makes a wheel look smaller. Or maybe even bigger?

I'm planning on doing the same with my phone dials.
I don't really like the rims but can't afford anything else right now.

Yeah, I'm just worried it will make the wheels look smaller than they are, which is not acceptable!

Yeah, it's been done because it looks good! What do you suggest, all black?

What car?

I ran dark phonedials on my blacked out 951 and it made the car feel too dark.

IDK I didn't really like it.

It's a horizon blue 968 (like sky blue metallic). The wheels are 17" with 5 spokes. For the sake of argument let's say they are cup1s.

The whole reason I even started considering black wheels is the car looks really girly with this paint, and even though sometimes I like the color, most of the time it's overwhelming. The parts I like looking at are the parts with lots of black trim, like the hatch area, so I figured black wheels might look cool.

where's the "Belongs on Cavaliers, Grand prix's, and poorly riced out Honda's" button.

It's been done, and i work at a dealership mainly in charge of selling accessories incl. wheels. The only people that ask for black with polished lips any more, and guys who have no idea about modding cars, this is their first mod, their doing it to impress someone or havent done any research about what looks good on their specific car.

I may come across harsh, but i'm just protecting a fellow 944'er.

(if you want to go outside the box, id go black center's, colour matched lip... but just remember, black wheels cant be identified from far away... they make it so your car looks like it has steelies because the black just blends in with the darkness of the inner wheel well)

89VW, your input is appreciated. I do tend to see black with polished lip more often on ricers than anything else, but I've probably not seen it on anything older than 911 Fuchs or 944 cookie cutters. I'm pretty sure that started the trend so I wouldn't feel bad doing it on my Porsche.

Also, I agree black wheels hide their design, and while I totally LOVE my wheels, especially in silver, I think my car needs some more black to break up all the metallic blue.

Colormatched lip will be way too expensive. I can't exactly find Horizon Blue spray cans at autozone! Plus, my problem is that the car's color is overwhelming, the last thing I need is MORE of it!

I guess I should say that I probably wouldn't polish the lip, actually. I'd just paint it (or leave it) silver.

Cyclone, people have done the phone dials before. If you search, I'm sure you will find pics of black / polished phonies somewhere on rennlist, or maybe pelican.

I still love the look of polished wheels even after 3 years. Here's a somewhat newer picture. I don't think it looks rice either.
This is from last year. The one above was photoshoped
