Default Bad pilot bearing or something else?

When I first start my car and push in the clutch I get a low grumbling noise and I can feel a slight vibration through the pedal. It only does it when the clutch is push in and quits after I drive the car a few minutes. I was thinking it might be the pilot bearing? It sounds like it is coming from the back of the engine too. Is this what it is or is it something else? Will this cause any problems later?

Just reviewing your past posts, you have been working on the clutch hydraulics.

Have the clutch parts ever been changed? Do you have the spring disc?

Has your clutch ever been replaced? If not it could be the rubber hub in the clutch is starting to come apart. It happens very often to early Porsche's with that design.

It's fairly common for the sleeve that the throwout bearing travels on to break. This is probably what you are hearing. If you leave it broken it will eventually tear up the splines on the torque tube shaft.

This piece in my hand is supposed to be part of the 3 bolt section below it.

Yep, I did change out the hydralics. The clutch has been replaced about 60K miles ago. They replaced the stock one with a $800 "sport" clutch at a Porsche dealer. Not sure if it has springs or the rubber disk. Looks like another big project is in store for me. I will try and ride it out for another month while the weather is nice. Then L/W flywheel and aftermarket clutch install. My wife is going to start hating this car if I keep spending money on it

Could be a dry throwout bearing, too...

I would guess that to change the pilot bearing or the sleeve that it is the same as doing a clutch job? Probably one of those while your in there jobs? I'll start saving up.

That would be my first thought too. It's all academic, same outcome -- gotta pull the clutch.....
