Question....

Are there 3 or 4 bearings in the torque tube?

Also, is it the inner ones that go bad usually?

Why not remove all, and replace the two ends only with the heavy duty bearing sets and be done with it?

Just curious.

there are 4, usually its the rearmost one.

more bearings is better, even if they are heavy duty, because the driveshaft oscillates like a sine wave and having just two bearings would give a large length for the wave to travel. having more bearings shortens the lengths and keeps vibration down and makes the bearings last longer (shared load)

Looks good!!

I thought about all silver but decided to just update the current look. Black tube with Hammerite Silver ends.

FWIW I also rebuilt it with 5 bearings and delrin bushings. I have a spare bearingless torque tube if anyone in Colorado needs one to rebuild.

I need to take some better photographs of it outdoors! I didn't use a duplicolor paint - I pretty much fired up the compressor and sprayed it with some leftover duPont silver car paint and cleared it. [

Spencer is right - 4 bearings - all have been replaced with factory units. Don't ask me the procedure, I'm not sure, I was out of state for months and my dad did the rebuild job for me.

I also did think about taking those brackets off... and damn it, now I wish I had! I can't believe after all of that work there is a flaw...

one of the most satisfying 944 jobs as it involves a hammer.

You should be sentenced to 4 Hail Marys and a 944 clutch job for your transgressions. You stepped over the line, when your mechanic sees that you painted the clamps he might not even service your car. Rennlist might forgive you but the Church of Stuttgart wont.

how many time per year does a typical 944/968 tt blow up on the forums ? how large is the fire ?

can a loss of life occur ?

when is it time to change it's bearings.

does this action contribute to a longer life of the car or does it just look good ?

and how do i upload epic crash photos to my od home page ?
