im screwed, speed + reference sensor trouble
I'm in the middle of a clutch job right now, and everything was going fine until I tried to remove the speed and reference sensors and the bracket they are attatched to. The sensor towards the rear of the car is stuck in, and I stripped one of the 6mm allen bolts that holds the bracket on. This must be removed to remove the clutch bellhousing. Has anyone had to deal with this before? What can I do? Nothing fits in there!! Thanks for any help!

I always try not to touch the bracket, but rather pull the bolts that hold the sensors into the bracket and carefully lift them out. This way you do not have to reset the height of the sensors.
Failing that, I too have stripped the bolts the hold the bracket to the block. I had to pull the motor...

Thanks for the reply. I too would like to just worry about taking the sensors out, but the allen bolts that hold the bracket on seem to also hold the clutch bellhousing on as well. Please please tell me I dont have to pull the engine. There must be some other way to remove a stripped bolt down there. I was thinking of trying easy-outs first and then trying to drill a hole horizontally through the allen head and unscrewing it with a long skinny bar of some kind. Any other ideas?

This is a 944 NA, as you can see, the bracket doesn't hold the bellhousing on.
Did you remove the clutch fork shaft

[quote] A Note From Barry Lenoble about Sensor block removal: "I have an 89 turbo. On my car there were sleeves on the sensor mounting block that went into the bell housing. Unless you removed the sensor block, the bell housing would not come off. The sensor mounting block is held onto the rear of the motor with 2 Allen head bolts. I believe they are 6 mm, but I'm not sure. The problem is (of course) there is very little room to insert a tool into the head of the bolt and remove the bolt. I had to remove the heater hose (which I had to remove anyway to extract the sensors), and then I was able to insert and Allen socket into the bolt and turn it with a flex head ratchet. A stubby ratchet would have been better, but I didn't have one. After the bolts have been removed, the mounting block has to move towards the rear of the car, and then you can lift it out. Note that all three sensors must be removed before you can remove the mounting block."

This was in my directions from the Paragon Products Tech Session. Even though I have an 86 951 I am having the same problem. I did not remove the fork yet. How will this help?

Removing the fork shaft won't help the current problem, but it must be removed befroe the bell housing will come off.
I've never done this on a 951, but I thought they used the same block and sensor setup.

I don't know how you are trying to remove these, but you only have to remove the 10mm (from memory) bolt that holds the sensor to the housing, then just twist and pull the sensor out.
