Default The Nordbucht T-bone -- Made For Porsches (Big Pictures)

About to embark on this epic drive and I thought I'd share! ENJOY!

Check out this amazing ring of stretching countryside road and winding turns. It's called the Nordbucht T-bone; Nordbucht means northbay, as in north of the San Francisco Bay.

It's almost 80 miles long and covers some of the most awesome terrain in California. According to it's wiki page, which needs help by the way, "the route is a loop comprising of CA-1/Shoreline Highway, Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, Point Reyes Road, and more. The route travels through Nicasio, Petaluma, San Geronmino, Lagunitas, Point Reyes, and more."

Overview

Nicasio

Tomales Bay

Marshall Petaluma Rd.

That's a nice route, for sure, I've driven most or all of it multiple times, although I've never had the pleasure of doing so in a Porsche (I live in MI, and my visits were all business-related, so I was stuck with the rental car).

BUT

You will be absolutely cheating yourself if you don't add the following ~20 miles to the route:

Just drop down a bit further on thru Stinson Beach and Muir Beach towns, and then swing up the Panoramic highway to loop back to your original route. It will be well worth the slight detour, trust me!

Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods are both excellent stopping points to get out and stretch the legs. Great views along the aptly named Panoramic Highway. The roads are fantastic, much more elevation change and twisties and scenery than the coastline...

I also highly recommend the Pelican Inn for a nice meal along the way.

Aaaaahhhh great roads in a Porsche, being chased by friends in their Porshce's.......life is good
I have never been to Northern CA, I am in CT/NY but we all have our favorite roads and these cars feel almost as good in a turn as my Motor Cycle....second most fun I have ever had with my cloths on, (bike was the first)

I'm curious when Google made their mapping run thru there -- the few times I've been on Hwy 1 around there, it was clogged with RVs

+1 on Muir Beach, Dan!

The inland portion of the road ideola showed blows the PCH away in everything but ocean views. I could barely keep up a conversation while driving it at the speed limit in a rental car!
