Method for Mounting speakers in cubbies
Hi all,
Am thinking of adding 6x9 or 5.25" to the cubbies in my 84. How are folks mounting them? If I put and MDF or aluminum plate in, how are they supported on the outside body side? Seems like a good spot, but I want a minimum damage install. Anyone have a good method for solid mounting?
thanks!

Just some food for thought..
I had 6x9 alpine speakers mounted in my cubbies when I bought my car ('86 N/A). I wanted a more hidden subwoofer and the best location for me was in the cubbies. I ended up buying some 6.5" round speakers and cut larger holes in the stock speaker location behind the seats. Sound was hugely improved - crisper, cleaner and it feet like the sound was all around you. When the speakers were in the cubbies it always felt like there was a distance from the speakers, and that something wasn't quite right. Plus the carpet was cut for the speakers - you can't visibly go back from that without buying new carpet.
However, if you are set on the cubbies the mounts don't need to be anything too serious. Plywood is good like ernie's.

Thanks for the pics Ernie..I would have thought the weight would be a lot to have just held by the board-backed carpet. Mine is a little warped and ravaged by time. Your is working well?
YoungerThan944, the 6.5 idea is good as well..I have alpine 4x6 in the door and rears. I am also considering the powered subs like KENWOOD KSC-SW10 for under seat install.
Looking at the cubbies and the odd shape/edge, I wasn't seeing a solid way to mount a plate across.

It would appear the sub is hanging on the raised metal lip with clips. I would imagine you want it wedged in the cubby with foam ro prevent vibration.
Clean install..thanks for sharing

I picked up a Boss pwered sub last night, I am doubtfull it will fit under the seat. I will look at an install in the spare spot or perhaps under the passenger side of the dash. I'll pictorial the assembly as I go.
