Default Fender Flares - Stretching

I have questions concerning "how to" widen my rear fenders. I am looking at adding an inch. I have rolled a little, but now need to reshape the metal. I have never done it before, and will be staring it today.

I need to know the basics, do I start hammering in the middle with the round part of a ball paean hammer? Should I do a relief cut in the middle, if so how high?

THANKS!

This for a 924S? The standard 944 fender can fit ALOT of tire.

I ran a 275-40 on a 10x17 wheel in the rear. No issues once I had the spacing right. If you wanna go BIG, you can get aftermarket fiberglass/carbon flares, cut the metal away and pop rivet/mud over the rivets and paint. OR you can get another set of quarters and weld them on over the top. Guess which I did (link in sig.)? I have about 15" across the top of the fender well, which is actually too wide for the 13" wide rim with a 335-30/18 tire. Of course its a little too narrow at ~10 o'clock where the swingarm pivots forward enough to catch the fender. Sigh. I'm not done yet.

I think you can also fit 11x18 in the stock fender, not sure about tire size. 295-30 is porsche standard, but a 285-30 fits on the 11 as well.

I am running 15x9's, that are -3 offset. My car is low. I need about an inch more fender space. I have toyo 235's, which had a couple of thin strips of rubber peeled off on my way home home from the tire shop.

Is it best to do a relief cut and pound the steel, or try to pound the steel first without a relief cut? Or, if anyone knows a good link for instructions?

You can only flare so much by rolling, if you need to go big, then you will have to make cuts. Here's a pic of my 924S after I put on 15x7 Fuchs with Hoosier 245/45-15's (you have much more room to play with if you have a 944). These were cut then hammered out and looked like crap but it did the job.

The pic is from my first PCA race, I was protested for having illegal tires and the scrut wrote me up for having tires that extended beyond the fenders. I still managed to win my class, get the rookie of the race award, and win workers choice; all in a crappy looking car

Brett,

I borrowed one of those (eastwood) and the hub flange doesn't fit the Porsche 5x130mm bolt circle. Worked fine on my BMW, but it would need to be drilled out for the p-car. Its intended for rolling fender lips. Not sure how much clearance you'll generate trying to stretch the sheet metal with the pressure from a nylon roller.

I have tried the roller...it does not fit our bolt pattern. Also, I deed more than the lip made flat. I need to know how to do this. I have some big hammers, and I am ready to go. I have searched, and will search again.

Lemming, good story, great 924. Is that the same car that is now restored with GTS flares?

Works with modification (ie. angle grinder). Used one on the rears of my car.
