i don't...i occasionally try to wear gloves...but i can't get the kind of dexterity with any kind of glove that i have with my bare hands...so i just suffer the busted knuckles and slight burns...

I don't think I've managed a single time yet where I worked on the car and it didn't at least spit a fleck of dirt in my eye.

Worst for me was a torn bicep trying to replace a freaking door handle.

i've hit myself in the nose with my steering wheel while trying to take it off.
while replacing my fuel filter i got gas in my mouth and eyes.
taking my exhaust off i nailed myself in the nose breaking free a rusted bolt.
i've lost count of how many cuts i've got from working on my car.
and of course the emotional torment it's put me through.

I usually get a bruised ego for taking about 8x as long on average to complete any given job. (I'll be writing to Guinness to claim the 944 clutch job world record.)

Real physical pain and damage has declined markedly over the years, probably due to a combination of experience (pain is great teacher) and steadily greater access to better tools and facilities.

I suspect 95% of not getting hurt in a workshop is the experience and intelligence to understand what is risky. Seeing the punishent coming means you can step out of the way.

Being slow probably helps, too. Just more time to think about things. Thinking is good.

One time I was trying to fix a 968 starter and my screwdriver slipped. 2 months later, the blood blister under my finger nail finally grew out and disappeared.

37 VW's and Audi's and on my 2nd Porsche. Plus being a tech for a living. I have shed more blood than I care to remember. My nemesis is the zip ties cut at a angle, just like little knives all over the engine bay.
Most painful? Laying under a car in a driveway bench pressing a transmission into place and having a small spec of dirt fall off right by my eye. Dirt missed the eye but your reaction is to flinch back, hit your head on the pavement, then vault your head forward into the transmission.

What sucks though is your head is throbbing and you still have a transmission on your chest.

I have far too many scars from car repair. 20 years of em.

Ha. This is an awesome thread! I've been cut by my 924S.... I can't remember how many times. Mostly little paper cut type things. But those are the worst!
