Exclamation Save the Flash!

So, I was just on my way back to work after lunch with a buddy, and low and behold, a late model, quasi-beater, white 944 is sitting next to me at the light! If you can believe it, this is a first for me.

After my heart stops its irregular beating, I look over and wave to the Moby look-alike dude in driver's seat of the 944.

He looks at me like he I am some stranger from another planet - then looks straight ahead and motored on as the light changed. No wave, no acknowledgement.

What's up with that?? Can't we all just be friends??? Forget about the flash, how about a plain 'ole wave?

I bet the reason you say that is because you cant flip up your headlights quickly enough all the time .But seriously some people wave back other don't. Some people say its new Porsche drivers that dont wave (new as in the car is new), but I dont think thats true, because a 996 can driver flashed her lights at me (yes her, and yes sadly only her lights).

Heh, you want to get into 'wave ethics' - ask anyone who rides a motorcycle... Harely riders only wave at other Harely riders (and shrink away in embarsment when it's a Japaneese clone), Sportbike riders only wave at sportbike riders, BWM guys only wave at fellow BWM riders - and then you have the Goldwingers - they wave (enthusiastically) at anything.. including the growing grass and eroding rocks.

Believe it or not, but this is 'just a car' to some people and they don't feel any sense of community. To others (almost anyone here), it's a fanatical lifestyle..

Myself, I just want to OWN one.. lol - damn shops make it SO hard to get a PPI accomplished. Seems that noone wants to devote the time for the money.

You don't need to. On a 944, when you "flash" and the headlights are down, the fogs flash.

If someone waves/flashes at you, just look at them like they are crazy and then revel in the feeling that they are driving themselves nuts all day dwelling on the fact that the wave/flash was not returned. It gives me satisfaction.

Quite honestly, I never did understand the whole wave/flash thing. I had a jeep for a short while and other jepp drivers used to swerve all over trying to wave at me, I thought they were just making themselves look stupid.

..but that's just my opinion.

Why should I wave? Because the car you bought was manufactured in the same place as my car? So somebody didn't wave...so what! Believe it or not, there are still some drivers that pay attention to driving, and not every other car on the road. Personally, I never wave. I love Porsches, but I hate people. Except for all of you, of course.

I'd like to counter this and say, the part about driving IS paying attention to every other car on the road

your fog light switch has to be in the "off" position in order for them to flash by pulling on the stalk of your turn signal.

go try it

Mr. McCoy hit the nail on the head. What confuses me is why some of the people on this board don't have the sense of community. I figured the people who have 'just a car' are not the people who spend their time reading on-line discussion boards. Appearantly I'm wrong?

If I see you (which I probably will) I wave.

I think half the people who wont acknowledge a fellow Porsche lover are Boxter dweebs who cant even spell Porsche, and the other half are 911/993/996 drivers who don't even recognize our cars as Porsches!

I'd be pretty pissed if a fellow 944 driver ignored me (as long as they saw me that is)!

Could also be someone who is more worried about the broken sunroof, slow windows, leak on their leg, strange rattle in the hatch, bad radio reception, etc!
