Default Lowered Car and Suspension Safety

With a lowered car there is a safety concern with A-arms. Are there any ather issues?

if u don't increase the spring rate, u could bottom out and that can damage the struts/shocks

The suspension has been bumped all the way around;

- 300 pound front coil overs

- 28 mm torsion bars

- Turbo "S" sways.

Is there a significant difference between the Rennbay's ball joint kit and something like the aftermarket Blaszak control arm?

Are we talking about tracking the car or just street driving?

If you run steel arms you can lower the car all you want. Just check them every now and then as I have seen many old ones develop cracks at the cross member bushing. However they can be replaced for $25-35 each so it is really not big deal.

With the Blaszak control arm you are using an early ball joint. Which are inexpensive and easy to replace. I have a Turbo S track car with the Blaszak arms. Moderately lowered with zero issues. I have a Spec 944 with the early steel control arms slammed as low as she'll go. I replace the ball joints at the start of each season and if I have a significant "agricultural" experience at the track. They take a beating. I've had two that loosened significantly in the last three years of racing. I'm raising my ride height after this season is over.

I have an 86 with the aluminum arms (early offset), do the steel ones just pop in, do they have to be modified? Brent, are you raising your ride height due to stress on the control arm? Also, how low is low?

I have been looking at the steel arms on Ebay. The price is very attractive. What would I need to improve/install it, can I use my 968 Casters?

Here is Picture of the Blaszak steel arm. It looks like he has welded some steel to it. I tried to call to see how much it is, but did not get an answer;

To use the steel arms you need to modify the sway bar drop link mounts. The steel ones had a different setup than the aluminum. I don't think you can use the castor blocks either as the steel ones don't use the escentric bolt like the later style. The Blaszaks are boxed welded to give them more strength. Not sure if they are modded in any other way. If you look on the arnnworx tool site, there is a writeup on using a steel arm on an 86. Sounded like it was pretty easy to do.

The Arnworx site is a good find, I thought I had found them all.

It is a good site in general. They have some "do it yourself articles" and some interesting "bits". As well, I picked up a wiper delete plug for $15.

What year is the car? It makes a big difference early cars with short arms tend to bind much easier then the longer arms of late cars.

My car is an 86. I am looking at some of the new steel, and used racing control arms. Blaszak has a reinforced one , as does a guy on the 944 Cup Boards. It looks like my best bet is with steel, possibly reinforced.
