First of all, I'm not an advocate of street racing...
Yesterday I was taking my buddy and his girlfriend (yes, she managed to fit in the back seat) for a ride in my car. He hadn't seen my car for awhile, and he wanted to feel the difference all my mods have made. We were approaching the highway on-ramp, and what do we see? A brand-new Ferrari F360 Modena in front of us. We followed him onto the on-ramp, dropped her down a gear, and floored it as he charged onto the highway. There was quite a bit of traffic, so we couldn't do much once we got onto the highway, but we did manage a few 4th gear acceleration runs. I think he was a bit shocked, that an "old" poor-man's Porsche full of passengers was on his tail the whole way. On an open road, he probably would have pulled away a bit, but the 951 did have three people in it, and a full tank of gas.
I'd love to meet up with him again, with an open road and no passengers in my car. Turn the boost up to 20psi, and let's have some fun...

With all the money he spent,I bet you made his day
Ian, what type wide band O2 sensor did you use to dial in your A/F ratio, I have been looking at http://www.fjoinc.com/

Hi David,
Yah, that's what I was thinking. Even with all the money I've dropped into my car, he's probably still spent about 5 times more for his!! The F360 is one SWEET ride, a truly unbelievable car. I just think it's pretty cool to be able to hang with the really big boys.
I used a Motec stand-alone air:fuel meter to set up my afpr and ARC2. It uses a wideband O2 sensor, and has a simple digital display. The O2 sensor itself was a Bosch unit, I'm not sure of the details about it. I've seen that FJO site before, they have good prices on wideband sensors and monitors. There's no better way to monitor the running condition of your car. Combined with an exhaust gas temperature gauge (with sensor positioned immediately after the turbo), you'd be completely on top of things.

Hey, Deja Vu! I was following a brand new black 360 Modena yesterday also. It even had the temp tag on it. This guy didn't press it, though.
Two weeks ago I saw a F50, an ACR Viper and a Hennessey Venom all in the same short trip. During the Superbowl there was a TechArt 996 TT (silver) running around. IMHO the TechArt was the finest of them all. The F50 looks don't impress me.

Ian!! That was me in the Modena!! I'm good friends with Brian Jessel and he lets me boot around in his cars sometimes. He has given me a 456GT, a 550 Maranello, the Modena, a Bimmer Z8, a Testarossa and a Magnum pi car (308?).
Oh yeah, I just lied out of my teeth. The coolest car I have ever even been in was a cream 25th anniversary Lamborghini Countach. Bet I had ya goin! Howcome I've never seen your car? Which areas do you frequent?? Have you seen mine? Trust me, the colour is hard to miss. Oh yeah, the 88 951 I mailed you about wasnt such a hot deal. I'll try to pry off his C2 rims though.

I think the F50 is a disappointment (I'll still take it if you give me a free one). I'd much better prefer an F40. I think the inside secret at Ferrari is that it's slower than the F40. From the only documented instrumented test of an F50 (Jan.'97 C&D):
"On the other hand, those times are essentially identical to the F40's, whose twin turbos make it more difficult to launch. In fact, once beyond the quarter-mile traps, the F40 surpasses the F50 at every speed we measured. By 170mph, the older F40 - despite spotting the F50 four cylinders, 28 valves and 35 hp - would be a full half-second ahead. More than 100 feet ahead."

Here here Danno, the F40 is BY FAR my favorite Ferrari ever. I really like the later ones with the black urethane chin and urethane bumperettes in the rear.

My local Porsche/Ferrari/Lotus dealer had an F40 sitting in the showroom a few weeks ago. I had to find excuses to drive past the window and have a stare. When I was a teenager, a British mag gave away an audio tape of several cars being driven hard on a circuit. Amongst them were a 911 Clubsport and an F40. My friend and I used to drive round with it playing in the car and dream.
Sad I know.
Cheers,

The F40 and F50 are totally different machines. They are similar in speed with the f40 winning out by a bit. However, the goal with the F50 was to achieve F40 like performance in a more user friendly car...and they acheived that. The interior is much softer in the F50 and it drives much nicer off the track. I was a passanger for three laps around Mosport in an F40 (when it first came out) and I must say it was hair raising. I forget the driver, but he was a local race car driver and was given the OK by Remo (Owner of Ferrari of Ontario) to drive the car how it was meant to be driven. Durring the second lap, it started to drizzle and we were powersliding every corner. Great experience and my favorite Ferrari as well. F60 is due out this year.

Matt,
Nope, I've never seen your lemon yellow 944 driving around. After the Canadians won gold in hockey, I was driving around and saw a nice red 951 in Kits, with 993 wheels on it. Don't know who owns it. In fact, I don't really know any 944/951 owners at all in Vancouver. The Seattle Dyno Day was great, because I got a chance to chat with a bunch of our Pacific NW Porsche brothers. We'll all get together again for the Spring Cruise. That should be fun.

The whole "vs ferrari" thing cracks me up. It always reminds me of a guy I used to work with that had put thousands and thousands of $ into a honda civic. He bragged about racing ferraris when he saw them on the street, and how they must have been soooo sad to get beaten by a civic.
If I was stopped at a light in my ferrari, and some honda civic launched off the line and "beat me" I think I would be laughing harder than he was.
I'm not comparing your porsche to a civic, of course, but the idea is the same. The Ferrari owners I've known don't have anything to prove. The car speaks for itself.
Just some thoughts.
