I know that there's already much info posted on these topics, but I really need some constructive opinions to help me decide;

My '86 951 currently has the original Fuchs 7/8's in like-new condition. I would like to fill-out the rear wheel wells a bit better to improve appearance, so I'm looking at two options:

1) Purchase Porsche 17mm bolt-on spacers (PN- 000 044 500 10) from the dealer at around $300 and be done with it. I like that it's easily reversible without changing studs, should I change my mind later.

2) Purchase a pair of 9 x16 Euromeisters for the rear and maybe move the 8" originals to the front.

I know that real 9" Fuchs are the preferred way to go, and I can't argue it, but I really can't justify the price of buying a pair and refinishing them since there are other things I want to do to the car. Is 17mm too much spacing? Will the 225 tires carry the wider stance well? Will the Euromeisters match my existing Fuchs? Should I leave it all alone? Thanks.

Spacers, and you can get them online for a lot less than $300.

I would save up for the 9" Fuchs. Then you could go with wider tires and keep it real. If not, I'd just leave it alone.

I was thinking about my rear wheels the other day and wondering the same thing.

I was under the impression that the 17mm spacers were too wide for the 951 in the rear? Cannot remember where/when I heard that. I was considering the 7mm speacers from Racer's Edge. Anyone here have a photo of the 17mm spacers on factory Fuchs?

I'd measure my own wheels except they haven't been on the car in months (sigh).

I've actually measured it. Measuring vertically through the center of the wheel, the outermost (widest part) portion of the tire section would clear the innermost lip of the wheel well with a few millimeters to spare. As I measured it, there would be no rubbing even under the most extreme bottoming. I like that the Porsche spacers are the narrowest I've seen that are the bolt-up type. My main concern with spacers and the stock width rear tires is that they might not have the width to visually pull-off the wider look, especially when viewed from the rear. The hardest part about deciding what to do is that I agree with everyone who has posted so far. Thanks everyone.

Either do the 9's or leave it alone. Using spacers to get the look will make it handle like ***.

heres my opinion:

screw the fake fuchs, you got the real fuchs already. the only reason i see to get fake fuchs is if you cannot get your hands on the real ones.

if it were me, spacers are the way to go. like you said, it can be easily reversed in case you want to go in a different direction.

Just putting the 8's on the back with spacers won't accomplish much. They still won't have the nice deep dish lip that the 9's have.................

i have 1" spacers on the front and rear to fill the gapping wheel wells with the OEM 7" & 8" Fuchs and doesnt handle like ***

tifo, true. he wont get that deep lip. but why would he want that, anyway?? when it rains, puddles form in there

Not sure on the front but cannot see how spacers on the rear would make much difference in the handling. Surely not enough to achieve "***".

951 8's have a 23mm offset.
911 8's have a 10.5 (or so) offset
930 9s have a 15mm offset.

so, if you put a 17m spacer on the rear, and run your 951 8s' you've essentially got 23+17 = 40mm offset. Which is not much less than the "late" car's 52ish offset. What I am not sure of if there is enough room in the rear fenders to run such a large spacer, but it seems like there should be.

What size tires are you currently running? 205/225? If so, you could help fill the fenders by running a 225/245 tire combo.
