Oil cooler for 924S DE car worth it?

Oil cooler for 924S DE car worth it?
As title says would it be overkill to add a turbo oil cooler on a DE car? are there lines to hook it up too on an NA 944/924S? My car burns a bit of oil on the track but runs great besides that. I plan on rebuilding the head over the winter but until then i have about 4 events (6days total) left and i just wanna make sure the car can take it. Car has 140k miles on it btw.

Does the car run hot? What oil do you use? What temps are you seeing?
I imagine you would need an aftermarket cooler and ideally find an adaptor that mounts to the oil filter and run lines from there.. but it sure gets crowded in there.

the gauge reads funny so i cant really tell you for sure. Im running Mobil 1 full synthetic 0-40. I think the temps are cool enough that its not effecting performance but it may be damaging the valves for all i know. The oil pressure is good and the temp gauge is usually down the middle but will on occasion spike but the car runs fine (i think its a bad ground). Im wondering why you suggest aftermarket over a turbo? i figured the turbo would be an easier fit considering the motors are so similar...maybe not but just curious

The turbo cooler is an external cooler, so once you get the 951 oil adapter plate (ie what would replace the 924S cooler), you can run AN lines to any cooler you want.
The challenge is getting it to fit in the front without starving the airflow to your radiator. I've heard of people doing it, but most of the time custom body modifications were involved to maximize airflow

Running a car for 24hours is different than a 20-25minute DE run group. I would consider a heavier oil.. 15-50 or 20-50 vs 0-40, but everyone has their own opinions on what oil they use.. self included . As you said though, the car is NOT running hot.. so adding oil capacity (via an additional cooler) isn't going to matter.
The only reason I've ever put additional coolers on was due to temps.. ie consistent 240+ degree oil temps.

Two DE and Auto-x seasons in the 924S and I have not seen the oil temp rise above 220 on my (added) VDO guage. Took her out for a hard drive today for about an hour and still didn't get much over 200, this is with the 10w30 brad penn that will be coming out for 20w50 soon. As it's been mentioned a cooler for DE use might be overkill but I'm certainly not going to stop you.

I put a 951 oil cooler on my 924S. Defintely helps when I need to cool the car down after 4-5 auto-x runs. Also cheap insurance on the track, since higher oil temps generally mean lower oil pressures.

nice that will be very helpful if i ever decide to actually follow through with it. At this point im just looking to enjoy the rest of the season and not take on any big projects until winter.

I did it on my 924S to help cool things down, I used a 951 oil cooler housing, Elelminates the stupid coolant/oil rad and no milk shakes, Then used 951 oil lines and a Mocal oil cooler. Street drivin sits at about 80- 98 Degrees C, Trap goes up to 115 degrees C If I remember correctly. I'LL recheck tomorrow since I will be doing DE at lime rock. I have a oil temp sensor in the Pan. I think it helps alot, It Keeps the extra Heat out of the cooling system and the extra oil lines help reduce foaming of the oil 2 great things to get rid of.

Water temp and oil temp are very different.
That said, there is a oil filter sandwich plate over on Pelican for like $40. That, some bradided line and a little cooler and you are in business cheap.
