Default oil/air separator seals?

Is the oil filler something that can be removed in the car? I think I need to change the seals as I found some oil in the throttle body and intake boot at the vent for the filler when I put in a new boot. Also, is there a replacement for the dipstick seal at the engine? Mine appears to have a leak around it. I have an 86 944 N/A. Looks like it might be accessable from under the car or otherwise the intake has to come off? How hard is this to do?

It is not that hard a job to do. You can order all the seals from 944online for the AOS and the Dip Stick. Give them a call and just tell them what you want. Very good people to do business with and they are a Sponsor on here.

Cheers,
Larry

Doesn't sound too bad. Larry, just ordered those things from him before I checked this post. Have ordered several parts from him in the past. Has never done me wrong and will buy from again! Hope I don't find anything else wrong when I fix this stuff! Every time I fix one thing it leads to another thing that needs fixing. By the time I'm done, I'll have a new car at this rate. At least it is drivable now and I use it pretty much every day. Have a 1.5 mile road with about 1000' vertical drop that is a blast to drive on with the 944. I have never found so many excusses to drive to town

Just remember... when you put it back together... to put the grounding strap back on the bolt BEFORE the plastic (and hence insulating) AOS.

Welcome to ownership of a 20+ year old Porsche.. just wait...

AOS and dipstick seal are easy fixes... just wait till you buy a 951 and start posting about having to swap the turbo.... of which AOS and dipstick tube are the cheapest of the "while I am in there" parts..

Good luck...

consider swapping oils you are using if you want to prevent the oil from being sucked into the intake via the AOS... the seals really only take care of leaks between the AOS and the block... you can also consider stuffing the AOS with steel wool to aid in removing the oil vapor from the crankcase vapors flowing through the AOS...

if you do decide to stuff it, i advise you use stainless steel scrubber

and not "00" steel wool.

less likelyhood of a piece disintegrating and getting sucked into the intake.

if you remove it, clean it out very good. I remember my 951 had a ton of slimy stuff in it that kinda looked like the gross stuff washing up on-shore down in the gulf.

There is a seal inside the A.O.S. that can leak. If that seal leaks, it can have a tendency to kick oil up into the intake. If you see excesive oil in the intake, I would check that seal as well.

Hope I got all the seals. Total of 4 for the AOS. I probably need a lot more seals all over the car. Just got front end alignment done and changed the fuel filter. Found cracked header with half a$$ weld on it. Was hoping that the exhaust leak was just a gasket. Never seem to get that lucky. Will pull that off and see if I can fix it.

is the AOS different between 86 and 83? I just removed mine from my 83 to replace the o-rings for the upper and lower mounting points. I decided to open it up and clean it but there is nothing inside. no seals, nothing. Where is this o-ring on the inside???

The internal seal is there to seal the two hlaves together. If you went to mcdonalds and got a cup, you know how the lid "pops" onto the cup? The A.O.S. works the same way, but there is a seal between the cup and the lid. If it leaks at this seal, you will have air pumping across the opening (the straw in my comparison). This isn't good, as it works kind or like a painters gun does; the air has a habit of lifting the oil out with it.
