Post Oil drain plug is missing the washer... a little help?

Ok my car has been leaking oil out of the drain pan for quite some time at first I was worried, but after watching things I guessed that the oil was coming from the drain plug.

I went to change the oil today and to see what the problem was with the drain plug, well I get it out and there is no washer. Correct me if i'm wrong but there should be a washer here correct?

My question is where can I get a new one?

That is a crush washer and should be replaced with every oil change. Any parts store should have them.

Ian,

First, be sure you are actually missing the washer. Sometimes it gets stuck on the pan. Look closely. Second, I can bring over one of my spare washers tomorrow if you need one. Let me know.

Funny story. I had a POS Jetts for about two weeks. I went to change the oil. Couldn't find the drain plug. Where I would suspect it should be was a little Rubber Button. "AHHHHH!!!! The drain plug is probably under that Rubber button. Those German are so great. Making a little rubber button to protect the drain plug."

So I proceeded to remove the button while laying directly under it and with no drain pan handy.

It was the drain plug and I got a face full of used engine oil.

Some places provide the new washer with each new filter they sell - so you don't have to remember

Is this something new, as I have never received a washer with an oil filter and I only buy from one place

Never the less, an old one can be reused with no problems.

By chance that wouldn't be Paragon Products, would it?

That can't be stock, can it? You can buy expanding rubber plugs to fit drain holes with stripped threads. Used them myself.

Probably was aftermarket. I wasn't saying the Chermans had designed it. Was saying my thoughts as I pulled it out.

I understood that, I was just using your quote to refer to the plug.

You guys that say you aren't bright are the dangerous ones. Whenever a reporter says that, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
