A NICE 951 TURBO STORY
Hey all, I've been on rennlist for at least a year now.
I'm at 3rd porsche... 924S, 944 (1985), and now (since last fall) a 951.
Since fall, I've put a lot money into it, did a lot of things.
But I was always disappointed with the power of my 951. First of all, how could I know the power if it's the only 951 I've ever drove (like a first girlfriend)
And with all that money putted into it, lots of tests and so on, I always felt like my 924S and 944 where more of a pleasure to drive. My turbo is poor (only went to 1.6), and 2 mechanics look at it, and the result as been...'' LAZY TURBINE, need to change the turbo'
UNTIL TODAY
I had a problem that I shared last week about my rpm not being stable. Stable when engine is cold, unstable when hot (could stay up at 1600rpm). Another problem that I wanted to get fix, but each time it was time to check it with my mechanic, the engine was cold, the rpm was fine.
Today, coming back from a client, I decided to stop, with no notice at my mechanic. HOT DAY, 1600rpm without touching the pedal all day (in f$#&ing traffic). I told myself, now is the time to show it to him.
My mechanic saw it, and then he tapped with is screwdriver (see picture (thanks to Clint's 944 picture on another thread) at that thing, and the rpm was going up, going down, etc... He told me it was some kind of computer thing that had to be change, come back and leave the car on monday.
Ok.
Left the garage, stuck in traffic, and then an opening.
Pressed on the gaz in 2nd gear, and WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Turbo pressure at 2bar for the first time in my life.
Now that's what I call a Porsche. Chit, that's a lot power.
I now love my car.
Now what the f**k was that?

Man, what a difference. I do need to change the Throttle position sensor as mister luckyjackass said, I don't believe in tapping on stuff can fix things for good : )
But I never thought that there would be that much of a difference between 1.6 and 2bar. I was planning on changing the turbo ($$$) in the near future, but I feel this is my lucky day.
I guess I'll put than money that I started saving for the turbo on other things (mmmh lets see, my wife is always yelling at me because of the money I'm spending on that car, ok, maybe I'll spend it on the house, renovations... I'll make my wife happy : )
thanks guys

I auto-x'ed my n/a for 4 or 5 years and was used to the lack of power. This is my very first run in my 951. As you can see i completely overshot the gate .

This was later in the day and video of a complete run..still trying to get used to the power . I was laughing pretty hard because the course worker gave me a big thumbs up and said 'AWESOME SPIN!!'

I've always noted a significant improvement with the LBE. Really, you outta just ditch that junk factory wastegate and throw a Tial and MBC up in that HIZOUSE--it will transform your car.

My uncle went for a ride in my 86 with me the day after it arrived, no I never even checked anything out I just started and said lets go, he told his kids he had never been in a car before that planted his head back against the rest while under boost. I guess that is a GOOD thing.
