hello guys,
how do you make a subwoofer or speaker enclosure like this. some links would be apriciated.
i need to make an enclosure for speakers in my 928, better speakers than stock wont fit in the normal space. and i dint want square boxes made of wood.

I sure as hell wanted it to be... but the installer had other plans.
his solution ? a special rockford sub disigned for high performance cars with limited space.
the result is the same. the sound pressure levels are amazing.
the amp on the floor is a 4X150 running the larger speakers now installed in the doors, and behind the doors and also the tweeters. it plays godawful loud... the door speakers have no midbass running through them... they are crossed over at 240 HZ. the big midbass drivers behind the seats are crossed over at 80 Hz.
the subwoofer driver is a Rockford Fosgate P3D410 P3 10" deep mount tranducer w/ duel voice coils (not the popular, shallow unit) the product is designed to work with very small enclosures... it's not the correct transducer for use with a larger standard box that you put in the back of your Nissan Pathfinder
FEATURES:
•10" subwoofer with dual 4ohm voice coils
•fiber cone reinforced with Kevlar with polyetherester surround
•"Venturi effect" design for maximum cooling of motor structure
•power range: 50-400 watts RMS (200 watts per voice coil)
•peak power handling: 800 watts
•frequency response: 29-250 Hz
•sensitivity: 83 dB
•top-mount depth: 6-1/4"
•sealed box volume: 0.5-0.75 cubic feet -- [yeah !! i couldn't believe this part either - but there it is !!].
i asked Rick the installer, what the deal was and he said. "we're at the correct enclosure size for this woofer design."
he used packaging popcorn to measure the enclosure. the sealed box we used is .72 cubic feet when after installing the transducer.
sub amp is a P500-1BD - Rockford Fosgate Punch 1 Ch. 500 watt monoblock.
http://www.woofersetc.com/p7589/P500...-Amplifier.htm
the thing that really matters to me is the sound. i have heard more bass before in a subwoofer system but this is all the space i was willing to give up to have bass. and the bass i'm getting is all the bass this car needs in my opinion. i can't turn the system up to the limit where i begin to hear distortion before my eardrums feel like they will explode. the door speakers and midbass drivers behind the doors get very loud.
the sub has the deep rich bass i was looking for. competition level SPL ? no. but, overall, the system sounds really good.

ain't easy....
some people like my sub, others don't. it's a bit of an oddball, but it sounds good.
i told Rick to keep his plans of the enclosure.
his shop is 2 blocks south of the Griffen Rd on 441, and 3 blocks north of the Hard Rock Casino in the little plaza next to Dunkin Donuts in Davie, Florida...
if the 944 fenders are different, it probably won't work unless a different shaped box is built.

it appears i am now the proud owner of an almost new Chevy LS2 with all accessories, electronics, ignition and wiring harness.... as i have come to an agreement with the seller on a final price....
what a monster engine !!![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
one of the most difficult parts to source is the correct transmission for high top end at 300+ horsepower...
Porsche sold the last 968 Turbo S transmission for the street with the "180 mph" 6th gears a few years ago.
i also have sourced a spare transmission with low miles which will be getting rebuilt as explained below....
i've been researching for some time how to set 968 transmissions up for more top end without breaking the bank.... at one time i was under the assumption that any and all Audi 01e 5th and 6th gearsets were interchangable with the 968. apparently, not so...
as it turns out, the 968 guys are stuck with either having maybe, like a .810 gearset made, or running the stock 5th .912 gear (which is too low), or running a .729 5th gear available from the (Audi A4 01e box, FPN FRL) which drops the rpm down lower than would be ideal after coming out of the low, stock 4th gear, but it is what i will be running.
the .729 5th grear will make about 160 mph @ 6,000 rpm (running a 25.6 inch tire).... the .600 6th gear will make 195 mph @ 6,000 rpm, or about 188 mph running a 25 inch tire... and the gearsets will bolt right into a 968 box.... a .680 is also available making a perfect top gear for turbo and supercharged 968s.
anyway... this guy, Scott, at Advanced Automotion, Corpus Christi, TX has a vast knowledge all the Audi 01e, and 968 boxes.

I think that might be your most technical post yet! J/K
Sounds like a fun project! BTW, has anyone tried to retrofit a Boxster or Cayman transmission into a 944?

yeah, having like 440 hp will be fun, but i'm not liking the in between gears of the '68 box. i need taller 1-4, and like, a .810 fifth.

your car is in nice shape.
2 things though
1) i hope you have a tinted rear hatch or a luggage cover because that amp is an invitation to chuck a rock through the window
2) even with a 400hp LS2 i dont know if you'll ever get to 190 in a 968

the subwoofer has as shroud that cover's it except when im driving. if you walk up to the car, you wouldn't notice it unless you knew beforehand that it was there. the amps are always covered with a memory foam pillow inside a black pillowcase. no worries but, if someone ever decides to come in, they're going to come in.
if i ever make it out to my favorite lonely highway in south dakota again, i'm hoping to videotape a 190 mph pass from the roadside, (maybe just after the first light) and the 190 mph threshold would be passed at just under 5,900 rpm...
with just the stock intake, edlebrock headers, and some tuning, the engine should be making about 430 hp. for the top speed pass, i could install a cam, remove the air cleaner and retune... the car should get pretty close to 190 or even pass that mark at that point.
did some number crunching on the lower speed shifts to the tall 5th gear, and the ultra-tall 6th last night....

a corvette with an LS3 at 430hp just touches 190.
but a C6 corvette is more aerodynamic than a 968, with a Cd of .28 vs .32. that difference becomes huge at that high speed.
just because your transmission and tire combo can do 190mph doesnt mean you can actually get there.
you will need more power.

hell, a z06 with 75 more hp can only manage 8mph more on the top end, albeit with a .34 Cd
here is your solution
http://araoengineering.com/LSX.htm
i think they might just fit in the p-car

If just trying to hit the mph mark once, you could give it a jolt of nitrous. You can tune it to come in gradually so it doesn't upset the car at speed. (kinda suck to shock the trans/cvs/tires at 170 mph)
