Post OT: Mid-90s Audi hatchback??

I'm trying to identify the model of an Audi hatchback (3 door) luxury coupe that was made in the mid-90's (e.g. 93-95). One of my friends from college had one, and I always admired it. I don't recall too many details except that it did have a manual tranny. Interior finish was typical Audi with wood trim and leather seats.

Any ideas?

The Coupe from the early 90's is pretty cool:

http://www.audiworld.com/model/historical/91/coupe.shtml

It would be a great 20v turbo project.

Yeah,
I like it too. You know which car is a lot like it is the VW Corrado with a G60 16-20 valve heads. They are really cool as well.

The pictures above are of the original UR Quattro turbo, not the 90s Coupe which is based off of an Audi 90 series 4 door sedan.

A few hours ago I got back from the Audi Club of North America (formerly called Quattro Club USA) National Event at Summit Point. (More details on that in the future... when I have some pics to share and the time to write about my experience with my S2.)

At the event there was just such a beast... a pearl white 91 coupe quattro with a 20V turbo motor in it. Very nice car. In Europe, this was called an S2. (Not to be confused with Porsche's S2!!)

There was also one of these coupe quattros with a 4.2 liter V8 engine from an A8!! Awesome!!

HHHmmmm...Pearl CQ S2???? Wouldn't happen to have been Brandon Hull??? I thought he was done taking that car to the track because of a prior "incident" and now had a 911 for track duties? And yes, if it was his car, it is very NICE!!! More info on the 20V CQ can be found here 20V.org very good site. This speaking as a former '90 CQ owner, hope to have another one some day.

Cheers

Damn that's an interesting car (I like)... Hrmm.. the GF is complaining about erh Ford Exploder and wants a car too.... Lets see, sell the Yuppie mobile for lots of $$$ (there's always someone looking for an SUV), pick up a clean one of these (HARD to find for me right now - I'll have to shop around some - not a single one within 400 miles of Atlanta that I saw) and a beater truck. Shoot, we'd still have money left over too... lol.

Is the Audi side of Rennlist the best place to go for info on these? I'm half way serious about talking her into this kind of deal.

Cool

Small world.. I'm in the hunt for a winter car too..Just sold the Durango, tired of the crap. I want a avant/wagon or a Coupe, no friggin 4 doors. A Turbo Quattro would be aces. I'm probably shopping downmarket a bit, 3k to 5k, but I know it will be a lot of fun. The look on the guys face at the auto parts store when I ask for 5 Bosch Platins.. not 4 or 6 or 8, just 5 thank you...

I really prefer this Audi to all other models available for street use. In fact, I highly doubt Audi will ever build a car more desirable than this. I actually saw one of these parked outside of REI in Seattle with a roof rack on it. It has major 'whoa' factor!

Group B homologation kicks ***! I'm gonna have to get my hands on one of those bad *** cars someday, although I think I would prefer one of the mid engine hatchback variants (Peugeot 206, MG Metro, Renault R5).

There was also one of these at the event!! A green one... that was amazing to watch down the straightaway.

I'll have to check the attendee list to see if the Pearl S2 was Brandon Hull or not. It probably was... given that there haven't been many of these custom built.

Oh, and BTW, there was a Ferrari F355 Challenge there also. IMHO, that was the most exciting car to watch and listen to on the straight, more so than even the four Porsche 911 Turbos (three new ones... one 1994 model)!!

There was a 944 Turbo S PCA Club Racer with a straight pipe exhaust... that too sounded awesome!! I'd say it was my second favorite to watch and listen (but of course, some might say I'm biased).

Yes ,indeed, that is an ur quattro. Some mods ,but very nice. I just sold my 83 ur ,but it went to a good home, to a true german car collector. In that yr ,only 1500 were made and something like 5oo came to the states.Incidently ,when you saw the ads about the audi taking all the hill climbs and Baja run ,these are the 82 -85 CQ that did it ,not the new ones. The 20 v v8 is a nice collectors pc also. There was also the gt in the early cq stlye ,but it was not to my knowledge tuboed or quttro, but almost indentical in body stlye. The later conquest was a copy of the CQ

Ah, memories... watching John Buffum run one of the international rally Quattros up Chimney Rock during an SCCA hillclimb back in the early '80's. He there more to put on a show for Audi than as a serious competitor.

Using the whole lane-and-a-half of pavement, both shoulders and the ditches... it'd come out of a corner half sideways in the outside ditch, straighten up, and leap like some great dam' frog to the next corner... all the while emitting the most awesome whines, shreiks, growls, whizzes, pops, and bangs... One of those truly treasured memories . WOW!

Jim, gotta dig out those pix someday...

JGriff,

Kevin Salzman (Randolph Racing) has a bada** '90s white coupe quattro built for racing. You should see the size of the intercooler....<drool>
He has a small pic posted on the RR homepage:
Randolph Racing

Those Group B racers were crazy. I always loved the RS200.
