Angry Aftermarket motor mounts - BAD

I am joining the list of folks who have had trouble with, and warn against aftermarket motor mounts. The ones I installed on my car have both failed after less than one year.

Now the question; splurge on Supermounts or save the $300.00 and buy original equipment mounts? Anybody checking into a group buy for the Supermounts from Lindsey or GPR yet?

Original equipment mounts (at least the newer ones) last quite a long time. Why try to reinvent the wheel? It's like my mechanic asked when I told him I was going to go with SS fuel lines, "What, 17 years of service out of the originals isn't good enough for you?" Know something, he's right.

Yeah, that is a very good point.

The lure of lifetime warranty is pretty strong, but you know, who is to say the folks who make the Supermounts will be around for very long. Whose to say they aren't some random *** fly by night that will be out of business next week. As an example, I bought an RPM d avantegard shifter 4 years ago thinking hey, if the pin wears out I'll be able to replace it. Well, RPM d avantgard doesn't exist anymore. So much for that idea. Maybe if I'm lucky the Kokeln pin will work.

As far as stainless lines go, they are pretty much flash for a street car. My original fuel lines failed after 10 years and 80K miles. Not bad. Stainless braid covered lines are more flame resistant though.

I just installed the new "supermounts" on my race car ... much better than my kokeln solid mounts. No vibration at all.

944turbo, do you think that the supermounts would work out all right on a street car? do you think that they are worth paying the extra money over the OEM mounts?

I just installed a pair of aftermarket mounts and according to all that I have read recently I might be needing to get a new set in a year or so... hope not.

Use the factory mounts for the street. Any type of solid mount puts undo stress on the motor, drivetrain, and exhaust system.

Aftermarket mounts suck. The PO got some for my car and they had less than 30k miles on them and they were DEAD. They had 30k when we replaced them, but they really only had about 10k before they probably failed. I figured all the vibration was normal until I replaced them with OEM mounts...could hardly tell the car was on it's so smooth at idle now.

Manning has the right idea...

I'll sell you a set of supermounts for only $200 each... lifetime warranty! At that price I could sell you regular ones, and take my chances that they will never go bad, or replace them once after 10 years and still break even.

I waited for the first PCA parts discount coupon and bite the bullet on the OEM mounts. The originals lasted 12 years in my car... I can live with that.

Hey Skippy,

If the concensus is that aftermarket mounts suck, why don't you all quit selling them? Oh wait, it's a marketing trick; people are naturally cheap (stupid) and will buy the aftermarket crap first. Then when they wise up they will pay double the second time for genuine (good) mounts. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

hehe... I second that... if the aftermarket ones werent so cheap I would not have bought them... right after I bought them it seems like right after I installed mine, about 3 posts popped up saying how bad they were.... we need to ban them!!
