If this is a problem IB, I'll gladly take it down.

Thanks,

LOL, I'd love to get $9500 for my '86 Turbo, but in this economy?
(This is a "Blessed-Man's List" apparently...)

The 924 figures are the worst...just truncate the last digit and you've got the value

market research question......What are the chances of getting $20k for a 1995 968 Cab, white and blue and almost concours quality, 6 speed, stainless exhaust, turbo style wheels, but have original exhaust and 17" cup wheels; only 30k miles. A/C works great. Water pump and timing done in last 2 or 3 years. Being sold by 3rd owner.

This is an inquiry for a family member. If they list it for sale I will provide more exact details. I bought the car for the family member about 3 years ago, and it was the best 968 we could find, and the prior owner was a Porsche club member and concours winner. It is that nice. It has been driven about 1000 miles per year in the last 3 years.

What do you think?

I don't think there is a better 968 around, maybe a different color combo, or a special option, but this can be driven or shown and is in top notch mechanical and physical condition.

If you are referring to 968s, I believe that there were more cabs imported than coupes.

EDIT: looks like 2260 cabs and 2405 coupes to the US.

I occassionally browse through excellence on the newstand and always check up on the market reports. The prices are always a bit too generous but it seems like they have lost their mind with this latest update. I see 924's is "so so" condition on CL all the time for less than a grand and people can't get rid of them. The 944 prices are little better...3k seems to buy a decent car early car in many cases. The 968 values are somewhat realistic but the older the car the more skewed the values seem to be. I am curious what they base this all off of? I don't think they could get most of these prices at barret jackson.

The values are definitely high, but I think there's a difference between "so-so" and "basket case." There comes a point in a car's life where the owner is choosing between a wrecking yard and foisting it on someone else to figure out. Those cars should not be factored into market value for the model, and I think these are not counted. And basket case does not just mean wrecks. A nice looking 944 with a clutch problem and overdue for a timing belt is no longer economically viable.

Over the next few years, I foresee a lot of neglected 924/944s being parted our or scrapped. That's good for the rest of us.

Maybe this is true for body parts, but overall, the fewer of these cars on the road, the lower the volume of parts sold, and then they're just not going to be offered. How much would a 944 clutch cost if they only sell a couple hundred a year??!!
