Default Race Seat Options

Looking at getting some race seats for the S2 (fixed back). Do all seats fit with sliders and side mounts using the stock rail locations? My options here in OZ are limited to Sparco, Corbeau, Velo (Oz brand) and Cobra.

Some of those may fit, but not all of them. You can find recaros if you look around, they go straight in with recaro sliders.

i have an EVO and i love it. If you are not too tall you can run a slider kit w/ the side mounts. I am looking into a shallow slider and i may have to kick the front of the seat up to clear my helmet in the car.

Most fixed back seats will fit in a 944.

Eric, I replaced my power seats with Sparcos and made custom side mounts. I bought a pair of manual seat sliders from the wreckers. The Sparcos are now as low as they can possibly go but are about the same height as factory. I wouldn't want them any higher. I have templates for the side mounts. Below is the test fit, using precision composite test rails...

Cheers,
Mike

Is that a normal size EVO or L/XL. I'd probably go for the L, not because I'm fat, but because I don't want the tight fit for the 2 hour drive each way. At present my helmet hits the headlining over bumps (ouch). I want the new seats to sit an inch lower than stock.

Factory is too high for me, looking for 1 inch drop. Is it not possible to drop the sparcos lower when using sliders?

That's the biggest problem with our cars. Headroom, or lack of it with a helmet on. Not what I'd term safe in a roll.

Do the stock power seats give more height adjustment than the manual seats?

I have no experience with sparco but you can get recaro (spg, pole position) down to the floor, significantly lower than stock, that is using recaro sliders, not the cheapest option but they bolt in the stock holes(well four of them), saves a lot of mucking around. They fit me pretty well too I have bought a few on ebay out here.

I just went through this mounting a set of Cobra Suzukas. You can use the sliders, but you'll lose around 3/4 of an inch. I ended up mounting the side plates directly to the floor of the car, that let me basically mount the seat to the floor as low as it would go.

It gave me adequate headroom with my helmet on, not huge amount...

2nd. Recaro SRDs on Recaro sliders are at least an inch lower than the lowest stock setting. Great for track days. For street use I actually wish they were higher!
