Post Who has Weltmeister Sways?

As I have one on my garage floor...

The dilema is that I bought theis Welt a little while back and am now in the process of putting it on with it's mate.

However, I thought I got a front bar, yet the mounting hardware looks more like it would be for the rear! Not cool considering that I ordered a rear bar from Paragon just the other day and I sure don't need 2.

Does someone have any pictures of them installed? That would help me a ton! The friggin thing should of come w/ instructions. D'oh!

I know this bar has 3 bends for each side, not a straight across like my front... any help?

thanks!

I don't have a picture, but the front bar mounts differenty from the stock type bars. It uses push rod connectors to the control arms that are "above" the control arms rather than just below. It also replaced the drop hanger plates from the stock.

It is kind of hard to describe. I believe that you have the right one. Let me I see if I can get a picture and post it this evening.

It's all confusing to me as I can't really see how it would attach, yet I kind of can in the rear, but it doesn't look like it would have enough clearance!

Can't win...

How difficult was the installation? It wasn't a complete bold on was it? Cuz it sure doesn't look like one...

Thanks so much for your help!

Don't have one online, yet - but, the December 2001 issue of Excellence (#107) has a good article on the installation. Back-issues are available if you can't find enough else.

There should be some good info in the archives here, the Email list (924/944@rennlist.org), and also at 968.net

Ok,
I am back with pictures

Below is a picture of the set-up on my 84 944.

I hope this helps. If you have a car with aluminium control arms the install kit is bit different, but the bar should mount pretty much the same. I was all bolt in except for the hole that I had to drill in to the steel arms. I am not sure if it is this way for the aluminum arms.

PSUice944 Great to hear that it helped out.
When I installed the bar I spent about an hour in garage trying to figure how it worked. Eventually I figured it out. It is tough since it is so different from the stock type.

You got a little lucky since I had to go to my father's place to do some work on the race car (It is an hour away, but I keep it at his place since he has more space). I had to do some electric work and replace my custom brake duct so I had the car jacked up with the wheel off. That are is very visible when doing that work, but is not with the duct installed. The hose clamp you see is a part of my brake ducting and not a part of the sway bar kit.

If you have any other questions let me know as I use welts front & rear.

Hey guys, these front bars are a pain in the asse . I was told that they go on in 1-2 hrs. Maybe the 3rd of 4th time you do it. The instructions suck. If I had to do it again I would se an M030 front bar. A really fast PCA club racer told me this after the fact. The fronts are prone to breaking links. Jim

Interesting you bring my post back up top Jim, I am going to dive under my car tomorrow!

I just got my rear bar in the mail and plan on doing that all myself... looks pretty straight foreword!

But that front! I didn't get any instructions when I got my kit, any tips? Any access to those crappy instructions and a fax machine!

I may just let my mechanic tear his hair out if it looks that bad...

The center attachment links just make no sense! I looks like a drill has to attack my frame or something...

Any ideas fellas? Any help on the instructions? A scanner by chance so I can try this all this weekend?

TIA as usual, you guys have been a big help on this.

Well,
I have run 15 Track days and 13 autocrosses with my front & rear welts. First250 lbs springs & now with 350lbs springs. Car weight is about 2450lbs No problems yet.
Thanks for the heads-up I will inspect these periodically.

Well (BUMP),

Got my reat Welt on yesterday, great improvement, a tight **** is always nice! And I could even handle the install myself...

But I have yet to tackle the front.

I also have yet to see the instructions! That is where I need some help. Anyone have a scanner or fax and a little free time? Skip, are you around? I asked Jason to toss in a copy of some front welt instructions but I guess he forgot.

I need to make a decision real soon wether I will be tackling this tomorrow myself or getting my ride to the wrench!

I promise this will be the last one on this mess. My next post should be new wheels, tires, both swaybar and strut bar installation and picks for all!

TIA

I don't have my instructions, but I do not remember these taking that long to do. Most of the time involved was figuring out they way they went in and what to do with the control arms.

You already have seen a pic of their basic arrangment so that should not be too bad.

My recommendation is to build the two supports and the two drop links before you tackle anything on the car. Once this done the rest is a relavtivly simple bolt in step.

Note also to take care to get the drop link length right so you can adjust the bars and make sure you do not have any preload in bars. This bad and will cause a different roll rate for left vs right hand turns.
