951 clutch kit source (best price)
Looks like I need a new clutch kit as my mechanic(951 specialist, and a friend) told me a spring broke and now can't shift while car is on. he said this is fairly common and wants to replace with 3 piece kit with oem clutch.
it comes with pressure plate, stock disc and release bearing.
he says it will take him 15 hours.
he can get the parts locally for $900 CDN (almost at par with US $)
sunset wants $1100
Lindsay racing is 949
Paragon 810
is there a better source?
he also recommended oem rather than racing clutch as the springs fail quicker with the racing...do you guys agree.
thanks for your help

we talked about this on cheap clutch thread....but i think conclusion was clutchnet disc was prob best economical solution. of course u also need a PP and a TOB. should also put a new pilot bearing.
looking on their site, organic disc for 944 turbo is $250. carbon fiber is $285
pelican has 3pc kit for $884 for turbo

Dan, Markus Blaszak suggested I use an OE-style kevlar clutch, but I can't remember why. You should give him a shout (unless you already have, of course!) Also, based on what I've heard, 15 hours seems about right.

At open track event a piece of friction material came loose and wedged between disk and pressure plate. I still managed to drive home. Local brake shop replaced the friction material and used stronger rivets (at least they said so). No problems since.
I changed the disk myself so it did not cost me anything but my free time that is priceless
Sachs clutch disk should be better.

You need to step back and stop looking at costs. Lets see, if you put in something cheap, you will only redo the job sooner, thereby, costing you more in the long run. I know folks who have used Lindsey racing clutch kits, they work. As an accountant, believe me, I am cheap. The only difference is, I will not cheapen a job for the sake of a few dollars. Whatever you choose, choose it for the strength, durablility, lifespan, driving style then the costs last. Good luck

I'd give RL'er ViperBob a ring. He knows the hot set-up's intimately and is extremely competitive. My clutch/PP/disk/misc. experience with him was excellent for a number of good reasons:
Advice/counsel were absolutely spot-on, regarding OE pieces to upgrade to RS spec. using real Porsche parts.
He knows what works and what doesn't by car and intended use strategy
Price was uber competitive
He did exactly what he said he would in the time-frame he promised
Full kit as he'd specified was inclusive down to every fastener and ancillary, dead nuts on
Personally, I'd rather go to fellow RL'ers that actually own/maintain and DE/race their cars than go to some head-set order jockeys that know only what their parts inquiry screen tells them. Case in point: witness Ideola here on RL for us 924/944/951/968 people; another testament to fellow RL'ers who know their **** and go way, way beyond the standard to help us by supplying legitimate parts and upgrades at legitimate prices
Another option would be Troy Chapman at EBS Racing - he also knows what works and has also done great things for me in sourcing some "left field" 964 RS parts. He's also a RL sponsor and may deserve the opportunity to earn your business.
Just an opinion, but these guys have all have been the very definition of customer SERVICE !

I use Jason From Exotic Motor Werks. He is an actual Master Mechanic certified by Porsche and other higher end autos. Also, a master mechanic for one of the more known racing teams out there, he uses the Lindsey racing parts. Jason gets flown all over the world to either fix or give an opinion about a particular vehicles issues or rebuild. Wherefore, what he says, gets done.

I'd avoid Vertex. My experience with their customer service is that it very ordinary (to be generous). Many more reliably run outfits out there...
Zims, Pelican and Paragon have always been very reliable in my experience. Zims have some good prices on clutch kits.

As far as the Frictiction disk.... i guess you could have gotten a bad one. How many miles did it last. Im sure tracking it puts alot of strain on it also

There are two styles of OEM disks for the car. The original version and the "cup" version. The original version has little damper springs that are supposed to make it smoother, but they tend to break like already happened to you. Because of that, I would stick with the cup version.

It seems that you could use Bronco disk with some modifications for 944.

Pictures should tell the story.
