Car Stereo Recommendations?
Didn't see much on a search. My Eclipse unit went belly up (about 5 years old) and it's just as well since it had no auxiliary inputs. I'm only going to replace the head unit with something in the $150 - $200 price range. It must have front mounted USB and mini-jack inputs. Any suggestions?

You can't go wrong with an Alpine. I recently bought a car that has an Alpine with USB cord, won't ever use CD's again. The unit supports folders on the USB jump drive, so you can have one folder for Rock, one for Easy, etc and literally hundreds of songs on one little drive. No moving parts! No CD wallets under the seat!

I picked mine up on sale a few months ago, so if you look around you might get one in your budget.

its worth the few extra bucks to get the nicer display especially for navigating ipods or usb drives. I guess no front usb in this case but you can run an usb extender from the back and call it a day.
if your at a $200 hard limit.. this one is nice

another neat idea, get a unpowered usb hub and you can easily switch between usb drives and the ipod cable. Hell if its powered you could use a 2.5" external HD

Neat idea, but AFAIK there is no limit on the size of jump drives, and on a 1 GB USB you can fit what? 250 MP3's ? and they only cost $5 on sale. I just don't have THAT broad of taste in music!

i went with the Blaupunkt Laguna CD35, which i bought from 9xauto. it was waaaaaay better then what we had originally, which was a kenwood unit that did NOT have anti-skip CD player, only 5 pre set radio stations, and a horrible audio controls. the car had that in the late 90's, and back then it was THE system. it had a CD player !!!! not anymore hehe

1gb isn't nearly enough for a daily driver, you need at least 8 to 16gbs worth to have a shuffle with any depth to it maybe more if they are all 320kbs mp3s

You can get a pocketful of USB's for small change nowadays, and I've never had one actually die. Here in New Mexico, any kind of mechanical drive (cassette, CD) dies a quick death in the heat and dust. CDs also warp pretty quickly, and everywhere they get scratched, finger prints, just a total PITA.

This is what I'm going for...can alter the color to match your dash lights. It's a little more than $200...

i've got 23 cd's on a 1 gig usb stick of stuff i like, not music just for the sake of music.
a percieved need for 16g of music for the drive to work is a joke and just trying to impress somebody with your mobile music library.

LOL, I got most of my MP3's back when 128kbps was hot stuff, off a certain now-defunct peer-to-peer system deemed illegal since...

Bearone,
Don't hate I was just saying that I need more, 1gb would only get me my pink floyd and nirvana directories. I have a 160gb ipod classic and i use all of 10gb for the music i carry on a daily basis and for the 2hr each way trips i do almost every weekend during the winter to go snowboarding. I'm not trying to slap anyone in the face with my e-peen.

Here are a few that I have been looking at.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...s/AVH-P4200DVD (Yes double din. Also run the Ipod to the center arm rest.)
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...ID-702NRB.html
I think that this one would be awsome in the 944.
