Default Sprucing up cast iron headers

Just got a set of early cast iron headers.. Just curious what everyone has done to make them look better... These are pretty grungy.. spider webs and all... I was thinking about either sanding them down then coating them with some high heat rattle can paint or cleaning them up and wrapping them with DEI wrap.. Any opinions?

Griot's Garage has just such a kit, though spendy for what you get. Eastwood as well. A quick sand blast and POR-15 would also likely do the job nicely. Best bud auto-resto shop owner (who does a great deal of Porsche biz) pointed me to POR-15 kit long ago, results have always been good provided you follow the process. Works a treat on rotor hat areas and your high temp application.

Is there a market for cast iron headers?

I have a set kicking around, and they wont fit my S.

Not really. Most prefer the tubular steel style because of an excellence article where Jim Pasha was quoted as saying they add 2-3hp over the cast iron ones. That and also they cast iron ones are noticeably heavier.

Upsides are, they are not a poor design and they will last longer than the car.

I exchanged them for steel ones on my 83 when I had the head off for these reasons. Just thought there might be a preference (or requirement) in the spec community for them.
