Question For those who have swapped in manual windows, mounting holes....

I am in the middle of putting in my manual window regulators and realized that there is two different ways you can mount it. There are four holes closest to the speaker hole where the crank post comes through the door. I have labeled a picture to help show what I am talking about. I haven't put the regulator in just yet so maybe its only got one way to go once it goes in, but I was hoping someone else might already have the answer while I work on cleaning out 24 years of dirt buildup inside the door. It can either mount slightly higher in holes 1 & 3 or lower in holes 2 & 4.

I think it depends on the year of the car. IIRC, I had to use the 2/4 holes on my 924S, but I think the later interior cars use the 1/3 holes.

Anyway, it's not too hard to do a little trial and error. You can snug the bolts up in either position and run the window up and down with the crank without putting the door card on. On mine, the window wouldn't go all the way down in the top holes, so I had to move it down.

What part number are your manual regulators? Do they start with 944 or 477? The 477 are for the early cars, and if you put them in the correct holes for the crank to clear the dash, the windows won't roll all the way down. If you put them in the right holes to roll the windows all the way down the crank will hit the dash when the door is closed.

I'm not sure what the actual difference between the 924 and 944 regulators is, I'd love some clarification. I just looked at a picture of a regulator on ebay from a 77' 924 and it looks identical to the regulator I have from a 968 clubsport.

I found out the regulator uses holes 2 & 4.

Man I hope not. I have the same thing sitting in the garage at home waiting on a warm spring day to install.

According to this.....

....they should work OK.

Can anyone confirm?

The ones pictured above should bolt right in to an early interior 944 without having to change the window tracks. Perhaps the tracks need to be changed when going into a late interior? Not sure about late stuff.

The ones I used were from a '77 924, and they have a plastic block on the front mount in place of one of the rollers. Like this:

These can be used if you drill a hole in the track and bolt the block directly to the window. This will work in an early interior, like my 924S. Again, I don't know about the late interior.

These are the late cranks that do for sure fit in a late car. No other parts required for the install, can use the existing rails on the window.

Hard to see if there is a dimensional difference between these and ones pictured above. Is there an angle difference between the toothed gear and the arm?
