Default Tires for street/Track with 8" wheels all around

I did some searching but have not come away with great info.

Have a spare set of 8" 968 wheels which I plan to use for track (DE).

I am not an R-compound driver yet...and was thinking that a dry pavement ultra high performance street tire would be the way to go for now.

Want to run the same size all around....

Not clear on size and make that I should be looking at.

Any thoughts?

Hey Joe, I think the consensus is 245/45/16 size but you're really limited in street tires:

I run BFG G-Force Sports, 245/50/16 front. 255/50/16 rear, on 16" early turbo phones. They work well and speedo is only 3mph fast at 70 mph. It is hard to find tires in that size range, even harder for 15".

it seems like in 245/50/16 there are a fair amount of options...45 series not so much as pointed out.

hmmm......

Hankook RS2 and RS3 are both inexpensive and very good for track use.

Joe - I can tell you that Toyo RA1s in 225/50-16 all fours would be a blast for you and wouldn't require any worries about enough camber on the frts like running a 245 up there. I've run them full tread depth and with that great compound, my 91 S2 and I have no worries about grip front or rear even with only 225s. They are DOT rated and they grip super well in the rain to boot. And yes, they talk to you before they go so I wouldn't rate them like some race only tires I've driven.

I found these on eBay,Michelin Pilot SX, received them earlier this week. I searched for reviews and info, finding good reports on the Tire Rack and several forums across the net. It seems to be best suited for dry road- track duties. This tire was in production from the late ‘90’s to at least ’08. Three of mine are from ’07 and one has a ’08 production date.

i ran toyo RA1 245/45/16's all around for awhile on four 8" wheels- loved them, but eventually wanted for more rear tire.

for an 8" wheel 245's are perfect. 225's are ok. I would get the same size all around so that you can easily move the tires around the car to optumize wear.

Dunlop star specs 225/50R16 is the best use of your money in my opinion. 116 each for grm's highest rated non r compound tire
