When I replaced mine it crumbled when I released the tension on the chain. It was scary to think of what might have happened!

When in doubt, change the tensioner out, smart move sir, smart move.

Odurandia, look at the first picture, on the left side of the tensioning pad theres a crack. It comes directly off the left metal corner and goes at a 45 to the edge of the plastic.

And that's the difference between experiance and a noob.
The experianced guy takes the cam cover ASAP to inspect.

Just becareful when you pull the J tube. You do not want to loose the check valve.

I'd suggest replacing the chain as well, looks original.

In my case the PO told me entire head was rebuilt and I had nothing to worry about.

Took the car to a local shop (Campbell Garage) to clean up some oil leaks etc and he asked me if he should open it up and check the tensioner. My response was no PO told me all was just done. He asked me again insistently and I agreed to let him check. Turns out everything in the head was changes EXCEPT the chain and tensioner and the tensioner was on the brink of destruction.

Experience saved my bacon!

Got the new top and bottom pad in from Paragon and swapped them on Wednesday evening. Drove the car to work yesterday Now to start hunting down the other bugs! Already fixed the driver's power seat wiring, put in a better shifter stick, and replaced the broken fader switch hole blank.

Can't wait to install the stock door panels I picked up and put in a radio. Might be picking up a stock exhaust system and stock batwing this weekend.

Hopefully it stops raining this weekend and I can take some. The car looks a lot better with the Cup II wheels on it.

What colour is your S2?

*Edit* I see that it's black. Do you ever drive through Westmount? I've passed a black S2 Cab on a couple occasions on Sherbrooke.

Could be me although unlikely. I got it in December and only drove it a couple of times before putting it away while I had the temporary US registration. And then one day last month when I had a 12 hour temp tag to get the inspection done.

On that day I was on sherbrooke and parked it on Victoria near sherbrooke went to see my accountant.

I will be out and about with it starting Tuesday when winter tire law ends. Hope to see you around.
