Post 944 demolished by a drunk,

hey all new to Rennlist but looks like a great place. its unfortunate my first post is such a sad one.
about 2 weeks ago my 87 Na 944 and I were goin home from the girl's when a drunk driving a Dodge Ram coming down a hill tried to turn thru an intersection at a bout 90 while i was going thru, going the opposite direction. He smashed into the front left corner and sorta slid back down the side pushing the car sideways in to the curb. The wheels broke off the axels and it went over the curb into a turkey hill lot right past the pumps. I had no seatbelt but im ok, i got about 40 stitches in the face and a concussion.

Glad to hear you're ok!

Do you plan on replacing it with another 944?

Edit: Just looked through all of the pics
You are very luckily you weren't killed! That looks like it was a quite a hit! Hopefully the driver of the ram gets locked up for a decent amount of time

oh ya, without a doubt, im lookin hopefully at a good chunk from his insurance, hopefully they'll just make a decent settlement offer and it wont be necessary to take him to court. right now im lookin at some 951s in my area, Lancaster PA if anyone knows of any around here. Ill probably be paying anywhere from 10 to 15k preferably under 100k miles.

Take a look at the pictures in my signature, and the ad i have in the classifieds for my S2 if you want to settle for a S2. As much as i don't want to sell the car, I should get something more practical that can take the baby if the Olds is out of service.

And in the future put on a seatbelt! just what you need, another mother

you could maybe salvage a few parts off her to sell... like... um... the passenger side mirror.. and thats about it.

That sucks. Sorry to see such sad pictures of a 944.

Herrtzeber,

I am sorry about your car, but as much as we love 'em, they're just metal and rubber that can be replaced.

Seeing the picture of your Dad looking at your trashed car, I'm sure he is just grateful that you're OK. I am glad you made it too. I hope the stitches heal up soon. Take care.

The pictures from this post answer a post i made a year or so back asking for any data on the crashworthiness of 944s.

This proves my theory. When I bought the 944 I theorized it would be better to drive a '77 design designed to survive rolls on a racetrack than a 97 design (like the escort we got rid of) designed to survive minimum government impacts.

now i have to wonder how a 3 series convertible would handle a hit from a ram.

Sorry to hear about your car, but glad you made it through, that looks like a hard hit. You are very lucky, somebody must have been lookin out for you that day. Much of the car was crushed, but it looks like the driver compartment stayed pretty much intact.
