Yeah, the stock mount can be rocked back and forth by hand even. No wonder the CV's on these cars frag earlier than other cars with CV's. When I did the V8 swap and removed the 944 engine, the old mount and Torque tube could shift forward and back by 1.5" or more inches that made life unbearable. I wish at that time I had this already milled and installed.
These are T6061-T6 tempered (45k PSI) tensile strength. You could hang 10 trannys from it if the 944 hanger bar had the nuts.

I've never heard of a 944 trans falling out of a car. You have to remember what that mount was designed to do.

ive never heard of one falling out either, but just by looking at the thing and handling one, i wouldn't ever trust it. i dont see what was wrong with the early style of trans mount, those were a solid design..

Question...Since these are designed for the 85.5-up tranny hanger, Will the mount fit in a 924S? or does the person have to change to a 85.5-up tranny hanger?

The factory transmission mount is an elegant design. It uses a rubber element loaded in shear, with geometry ensuring different stiffness in each of the three axes, carefully designed in conjunction with the required resonant frequency for secondary ride considerations. It has built-in snubbers to limit travel in all directions, and it is also a captive design, ensuring fail-safe behaviour in the event of failure of the elastomeric element.

My analysis of the CV travel issue points to the motor mounts being the biggest contributing factor, allowing rocking of the drivetrain which creates a lateral offset due to the lever arm from the transmission mount to the axle axis. Stiffening the trans mount helps, but the real problem lies at the other end of the car.

I notice a lot of criticism of "rubber" items such as factory engine mounts, trans mounts, timing belts, suspension bushes, clutch hubs etc. In all of these cases, the factory has an inspection and maintenance strategy which, if followed, eliminates the problems. Remember, these items deteriorate just like tires. If you have a problem replacing tires, well then...

Of course different requirements need different solutions, hence xschop's new trans mount. I just get sick of hearing "the factory part is rubbish" when in 99% of cases it ain't so. Give the factory engineers some credit!
