fans stay on after car is turned off
Hey everyone,
I just recently replaced my waterpump and thought i had all the issues fixed however today i experienced a new issue. after parking my car i went to work, and came back 5 hours later to a dead battery. It appears that my fans are staying on after my car has been turned off thus killing the battery.
Could air in the cooling system possibly cause the fan switch to keep the fans turned on? also the car seems to be running a little hot at the last white bar.. thoughts? opinions?

i highly doubt air in the system would cause the fan to keep on running to the point of draining the battery. with car off, the water pump is not running. the fan is just cooling off the fluid in radiator. most likely your fan switch is stuck and not shutting the fan down after it's cooled off.

With the thermoswitch, you will need a socket to put it in in a very odd size, you'll need a 29mm deep socket, which neither Lowes, Sears, nor the NAPA distribution center in worthington had in stock. they all carry 27mm, then it skips to 30mm.
I bought mine off of amazon, kinda pricey ($30 shipped) but there isn't too many other options...

My thermoswitch did the same thing several years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't figure it out until I bought a new battery.
In the meantime you could always pull the fan relay to keep it from draining things.

I am having the same problem, but i was thinking it was the relais. This is because the problem was still there when I pulled the cable off the temp switch and secondly because the fans would stop when i lightly tapped on the relais. Oddly enough when my brand new relais came in and i swapped it out the problem was still there. One tapp on the relais and it "clicked" to make the fans stop. Am I looking at an electrical gremlin below the fusebox?
My car a 92 968 had the fans go at full power constantly, regardless of ignition position and temp sensor.

If i Recall correctly there's relay test on clarks garage. I had this kind of problems a year ago, which was cured by changing the temp sensor to a new one. relay would be the second one to fix, if sensor doesn't help. bit more costly to purchase.
