Well, I just saw this 944 on ebay ( <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6434&item=2411557748&rd=1" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6434&item=2411557 748&rd=1</a> ) And I was pretty intrigued.With time still left, I think I might push my dad for it, but I have more of a chance getting a PS2 for a buck than convincing my dad this early. Anyways, I wanted to get your opinions on it. Would it be worth even talking to my father about? I just kinda wish the reserve was'nt met, because there will be no second chance, and this just seems like such a deal.

Well, that was quite unexpected. Besides, my dad's looking for a car for me to work on, and he said okay to it being a Porsche. So it's not really a big deal.

That looks like a really nice car... in those pics it looks like the person who owned it treated it quite nicely. I think whoever gets that car will be getting quite a good deal.

I think it's a good project car. The thing that sucks is how long you will have to wait to drive it....do you think you can wait that long after feeling the wrath of Porsche?????

Awesome man, of course, if he had the T-belt break- yor in for some valve work, but if you can get it for the right price what the hell. It also looks like it has some nice upgrades, even has a strut tower brace.

Do you have a strong, steady source of income?

If not, I would suggest something with a domestic V8 as a "first project". Parts are cheaper, labor is cheaper, the engine is more simplistic.

Cost of entry for the 944 is very deceiving..

if the kid is looking for a rebuildable wreck so he can learn, more power to him.

back in the stone age (1976) i had a choice of spending $300 on a firebird convert, or going in on a pound of pot with friends. like a schmuck i put the money into the firebird, and still am.

i personally would look at an RX7 or other rear drive japanese sports car instead of a 944 as a project car, just because they are simpler and cheaper to work on. but galvanized body panels are attractive.

For the money that car looks great. I'm with Cory, get some recent pics or have a local Rennlister look at it for you.
As far as being 13, I think that if you put your own hard work & money into the car you will appreciate & respect it that much more. Take a performance driving class when you're old enough and really learn how to handle the car. I say go for it.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but the explitives on this thread are being thrown around while we all know that there is a 13 year-old reading every word. Kenneth, I realize you probably hear worse language before the first bell at school every day, but we (the adults on the forum) should know better thatn that and I would like to apologize to you for some of the language you are being subjected to. You probably haven't been offended at all, but I am offended a little! I wouldn't want my 13 year-old reading that kind of language from people who should know better!

By the way, the car looks really nice! If you think you can get it done, I'd invest in having someone (rennlister) give it a once-over, anyway! They are expensive tinker-cars, but they are very rewarding, if you have the patience!!!

If it stays near that price it would appear to be a good deal. It does appear that somebody was putting money into it. (Plug wires, strut brace, etc.) You would have to keep in mind the worst possible regarding engine damage.

I flew to inspect a car that was represented as "excellent mechanical condition" on ebay. The car was a complete POS. The money I spent flying was well spent. We were talking $8500 for an '87 951. As I walked away from it the seller asked if I would buy it for $4500. Nope. Let the buyer beware, indeed.

A 944 would be a great car to learn an appreciation for engineering. I'm just envious I didn't have that opportunity when I was 13.
