2.5 2.7 Engine Differences
I'm looking for a list of differences between the late (88) 2.5L and the 1989 2.7L NA engine for a race car project. I did some searching and can't seem to find a similar thread, though I can't imagine it hasn't been summarized somewhere. I could just comb the PET, but I figured I'd ask around first. At least these things, I think:
1. Intake manifold (larger passages)
2. Head
3. Valves
4. Cam
5. Pistons
6. DME?
7. Chip

Going through the PET and figured I'd document it here for future reference...
What I'm interested in are material differences between MY88 (M.09) and MY89 (M.11) engines. I've found these part number differences:
Short Block
Piston
Rings
Head
Intake Valve
Exhaust Valve
Camshaft
Balance Shaft
Water Pump
FPR
FP Damper
Fuel Injector
DME
Are the fuel pressure regulator and Water Pump differences material? How about the FP damper and balance shaft?
I don't know how to embed an HTML table, so if you're interested, here's the list with part numbers. If you copy, and paste, you can reformat it in Excel or something.

Can you tell us why you want 2.7 l engine?
Do you think that it gives you more power, is more reliable or what?
Do you have some kind of class rules that might restrict 2.7 l use?

Steve owns my old 89 n/a which had a 2.7 motor in it. Steve that crank is from a 924s, which is cross drilled and polished- the replacement after i spun a rod bearing. IIRC the water pump actually has 2.7 stamped into it as the impeller is different or something. I think that motor would be great with a fresh set of rings because it would injest some oil on the track, but not really on the street.

The long story is... After I bought Dan's car to drive on the street, I replaced the torque tube and put in an early trans (for the fuel-efficient 5th gear). At the same time, the engine appeared to need rings so I figured I'd go ahead and pull it. Right about that time, MPD47 was selling a freshened Euro 2.5, so I put that in the street car instead. Then I traded the 2.7 that I took out plus some $$ for a race-prepped 2.7 long block. A weight drop for 2.7 engines might make them really competitive in the 944 Cup series this year, so I'm going to give that a shot. I removed the 2.5 from my race car and am working on getting the 2.7 installed. I want to make sure that I replace all of the 2.5 parts. So, I've got a 2.7 intake, a 2.7 FPR, 2.7 injectors, and a 2.7 DME. Other than the long block, I think that's all I need.

It's doing great. The engine that I put in it is leaking at the rear seal, so it's gonna have to come out again, but it's serving its purpose... I drive it to work on nice days and borrow parts off of it in race car emergencies. One of these days, I'm going to get around to putting a spare Vitesse MAF I have on it and see what I might be able to tune a Euro engine to.

Planning on putting it in a decent '87 924s Street car but don't have anything else for the 2.7 and wife has cancer so... I might sell everything, or trade for a 2.5 I could put right in, I'd love to just find parts fairly cheap and maybe some help and finish it. I also have the original 2.5 with cracked block
