Default Leather question

I just bought a very nice set of seat covers for one of my other cars, however the bottom leather is very dry (not cracked yet), I would like to get some suggestions on how to soften the leather back up. I have already soaked the outside of them in Lexol.

Bring on the suggestions.

If LEXOL did not soften the leather, below is another great product. You might have to turn the seat bottom inside out to reach the bare leather. There is a lacquer type protector applied to the surface that may prevent the Lexol from getting to the actual leather surface.

I did not have very good luck with leatherique. I attempted to recover some leather seats with it, and it didn't work at all, and just made everything a sticky mess. YMMV.

Are you sure you were following the directions accurately? You're the first of many that didn't have something excellent to say about the leatherique products.

Saran-wrap the oil to the seat, and let it sit (preferably somewhere warm) for a few days.

I followed the instructions to the tee. One seat was really bad, and the leatherique made no difference whatsoever. The other one did soften a little bit, but there was still a sticky residue, even after the lather-rinse-repeat (figuratively speaking) approach given in the directions. My experience may not be typical, that's why I put YMMV in my post.

All leather soften products are to be wiped down after a short time and buffed to a low luster. If you allow the product to set up, you will have a gummy mess to clean. I have used LEXOL for years on my Show Saddles and the others and never had a problem. As in anything, you have to read the directions for use.

Cheers,
Larry

Did follow the instructions, just didn't work on my seats. They may have been too far gone. YMMV

I have used Leatherique on cardboard hard Jeep Grand Cherokee seats (which is some of the crappiest leather out there) with great success. It does get sticky when all the contaminates come to the surface, and it takes some work to get all of it off. My first experience with it was similar to yours, ideola.

I'd give Leatherique a shot at those seats. Send a PM to jlturpin, he can help you out with the product.
