Tell your mechanic to stop smoking the crack. Then go find another mechanic. If mine ever told me something like this, it would make me question his p-car knowledge.........

Now that's a nice, polite way of putting it. Me, I'd say he's nucking futs! 911 engine is a flat six... read, "very wide." Maybe with a total tube-frame rebuild of the car, and enough cubic dollars.

Jim, now ask him which end he wants to put it in...front or back? Or maybe a mid-engine, like the Boxster...

Almost any engine swap is possible, it's just a matter of time, effort, and money. While it's not a hard swap in the sense that it would be easy to design on paper (that's the case with most swaps), your mechanic has to realize that such a swap takes a huge amount of time, effort, and money compared to most known engine swaps.

While I have not personally seen such a swap, I would dare to guess that if you contacted the keeper of such a beast, you would hear of how a huge amount of $$$ was spent on the swap and how long their car was out of commission.

Abdul

He must be thinking about a 914 chassis w/ 911 Turbo motor swap.

I think amaf must have moved to DFW and is now working as a porsche mechanic

I guess the dallas shop you go to, lostvipor, is not Istook or Mayo

It MUST have been a 911 engine swapped into a 914 that your mechanic was thinking of.

Even then, while I have seen/heard of 3.2, 3.6, even 3.8 911 engines residing in a 914, I've never heard of a 911 Turbo sitting there!

There was an early factory 924 prototype with a MID mounted flat 6. Crazy.

lostvipor944,
What are you guys over in Dallas smokin' -- come on over here to Cow-Town and we'll fix ya up real good.

flat six tooooo wide no fit in front

mid engine may be possible... with a whole freaking new chassis? What's with that!

You could put in a V-8 for way cheaper (but why would you).

Istook's seems like they know hat the are talking about (Ft. Worth).

And Phil Bragg over in Arlington (east I think) comes HIGHLY recommended.

Run don't walk away from that IDIOT!!!
