Default Throwout Bearing Solution Needed..!

Help! Need some lateral thinking...

I have only two days to find and fit a clutch throw out bearing replacement before a big race weekend at the Yas Island F1 track. As usual there are no Porsche parts in stock in Dubai or anywhere in the region. Shipping from the US is three days minimum so on the surface it looks like I am screwed.

Does anyone know of any alternative to the Sachs pull type 944 bearing? Audi part, anything? In fact all I really need are a replacement set of shims and locking rings as the actual bearing & carrier are ok for now. Do any other Porsche model throwouts have the same size retaining rings??

PET shows it has a 951 part number, different from the n/a version, so seems unlikley you'll find a cross-over part.

Junk yard?

If you have the tabbed spring thing, seems like the other parts "could" be made by a machine shop...

Find a donor car?

Weld it in?

No 951 part available, tried that. Even from Europe it usually takes two to three days..sometimes longer to get through customs here than the plane flight over.

I am going to try a machine shop tomorrow..!

Crap, too bad you didn't post this a couple of days ago. I'm in Jebel Ali having just flow in from Nova Scotia. I have what you need at my shop there. Sorry.

OBTW, I'm in awe at the cars here, but I haven't seen a 944/951 yet!

Gord. (here for work)

V2,...Normal Weekend is Friday Saturday here, Race weekend is normally Thursday-Friday, but in this case the car has to be at Yas on Wednesday.

murrayg that is bad luck...unfortunately I only broke it on Friday so didn't know! Not too many 944s here as they were never sold locally and are all private imports, although having said that I am picking up a 951 this week for spares, possible project. What are you doing here??

So I begged a machine shop to make me some parts this morning, but won't be ready till Tuesday morning. Guess I will be pulling an all nighter Tuesday night!

Well, good news is I had some parts made at a machine shop and got the car back together today. Two days lying on the floor in a driveway by yourself doing this job.... not recommeded!

Just hope the thing holds together...

Sorry, I was in too much of a hurry to get it fitted, to take pictures. Nothing too exciting just a correct thickness retaining ring on the flywheel side of the pressure plate and a modified circlip to sit tight in the groove.

If it doesn't break, maybe I'll take a picture next week when I change it out for new parts

I'm impressed they could make those parts. Did you have broken versions to use as a guide?
