so is 17 inch becoming the size easiest to find wide tires in? i will probably want to run at least a 285 in the rear, but i'm ok sticking with something a little smaller for now if the real wide ones are not economical or are going to break the bank
i like those mustang wheels by the way, they fill out the fenders nicely and are nicely styled

Id go with 17s if you are running wide tires. Honestly, if you're putting the money into a widebody kit, put the money into the wheels to fit under it. Get CCWs.

I am running 15x8 front and 15x10 rear on my red car, I have no idea who makes the wheels though. They have a really low offset and I had 265/45 on the rear and they rubbed like crazy, so right now they are on 225/50 with a little stretch ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I've also used a set of 16" Ronal R9, 16" ROH ZS, and recently picked up a set of 17" ROH ZR6 wheels, all aftermarket for the Porsche bolt pattern.

you got guys here who've invested anywhere from $20-80 k in their cars. perfectionists. so they're gonna have a hard time appreciating your point of view.
you want to be running 18 inch wheels. they will be the cheapest on ebay and you WON'T break the bank.
run rear tires at 25 to 26. inches in diameter. examples would be 275-35-18, a 25.6" tire, 285-35-18, a 26" tire and 295-30-18, a 25 inch tire. and about 245mm in the front.
you're right about going wide in the rear. wide tires look horny.

I think the widest tire you can get for 17" is
275/40.
I have a pair on my wagon and love'em, but that's something else.
Check VWVortex for a good set of used wheels.

FWIW, Team Dynamics will drill any bolt pattern and make any offset... I don't have any pics of them on 944's but I have them on my Alfa. The ones I have on my Alfa are 15x7, custom drilled at 5x98mm, they're super light, right at 13lbs and the set was either just under or just over $600. They're FIA approved and very well made (forged). Obviously, 18's would be a bit more, but I can only image still very reasonable. The only trouble is finding a US dealer that will order them directly from the factory for you. I got mine through Group 2 in Seattle.

I'm with OP, I'm tired of v8's and any nice looking wheels being "blasphemy" because they don't say 944.102.whatever on them. Having all Porsche power and good looks is expensive!
